Walleye Warriors,
My blog will return in 2012! I've added a tool to the left where you can enter your email and have new posts automatically sent to your inbox.
If we ever get any ice I'll post some pics of crappies that I hope to catch. We are a way off from river season, but hopefully we can all get out fishing before then.
Happy New Years!
Dr. Walleye

Hey Doc like the look of your new Blog page. Hope to fill it up with wacky and crazy stories of 2012 soon enough.
Dbldip: shoots girl deer..lets the big Bucks go, what a man
Thanks DBLDIP. Hey Graybeard...how much venison is in your freezer?
Anymore of this weather and I'm going to need a boat to crappie fish. Where's the ice?
I have Zero in Freezer I don't really Care for it ,But I have not killed a deer since I came back from Vietnam,Went to Pa on our annual Deer hunt in 1971.Put the scope on a Buck and could not pull the trigger on something that was not trying to kill me,,I can get all the deer meat from my neighbors that hunt the tri state area ,but don't really want any.as for Crappies ,,you better get with Grumpy seems like he is killing them
Hey Dbldip ,,about time to start pouring. weights if you start now maybe you will have enough to supply Birdman.as for me I am just going to go down and throw a hundred pounds in the river to satisfy the River Gods..looks like the river has changed a lot a lot of new rocks in the shoot entrances but I am sure the spring floods will move the rocks again.
Yea I hear you Graybeard. I shot another girl deer muzzleloading on Monday so you can whine about that one also. As far as pouring weights I only need to make 3/4 and 1 oz I have a crap load of others. That river will be all screwed up by next spring so we will all be falling in expecting rock bars where they were last year.
Anybody know how to cut a block of lead that is about 3 inches thick? I hear that band saws don't work. Am I better off getting some metal blades and using my sawzall?
cutting lead with a saw is a pain in the ass,The blades teeth fill up fast,we used a horizontal band saw with a 18 tooth blade with water soluble oil as a lubricant,,as slow as the blade will go ...we have done it with a sawzall with a 6 tooth wood cutting blade.with a lubricant to keep the blade from loading up anything works including water, oil is better ,just keep the teeth clear.we tried a skill saw cutting a 1/4 at a time but we could not slow the saw down and would almost melt the lead and bind the blade,,send it with Dbldip he could use the shop saw or a torch,,,I have cut a lot of lead to fill and build walls,I used a Plasma cutter until safety stopped me because of the fumes.. good luck
Thanks Graybeard. I'll try the sawzall with some lube. DBLDIP ought to have some lube I can borrow. Hopefully it's not that homemade kind!
Dbldip.when do you put your cowboy hat and boots on and start herding cattle this year..
fished the river today. Got my limit of walleyes in about 25 min at meigs. 5/8 ounce with a pink tail. let 5-10 go. Great day
Graybeard you should have some of that homemade shad slime lube saved up from somewhere dont you. Doc if you can't get it to work let me know and I will take it to work and melt it into ingots. Do you have an inget mold?
Dbldip:I just bought some # 7 crane swivels from your girl friend $5.99 they just got a shipment in..she is just as friendly as ever the vacation did not help much.
are you talking about the old lady at maumee tackle? I would totally plow that
Has anyone heard of people going into the river yet? With this strange weather just trying to figure out if this is going to make the run start early, late or mess it up all together!
Thats a very good question and a lot of us have been wondering the same thing. In all my 30+ years of fishing the river I do not remember ever having the river not freeze at all. With the lack of ice cover and the high water levels all winter, the temperature change will be much less than normal. The river has historically broke open the first week of February from my own personal notes so At this point who knows, so far I have not seen anyone try but I'm sure we will see some guys test it out the next warm spell next week.Graybeard and fisherboy what do you ol' riverrats think?
Anybody know cheapest place to buy #7 crane swivels. I have a "do-it" mold and im pouring "trolling" sinkers. Right now im buying them for 7¢ a piece. Problem is it takes 2 swivels to make one sinker. As fast as you'll lose em I'm just thinkin cheap. Thanks
