Wood County Wildlife Officer Retires After 28 Years of Service

FINDLAY, OH- Wood County Wildlife Officer Marty Baer has retired after 28 years of service to the people of the State of Ohio according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR), Division of Wildlife.

Marty Baer started working for the ODNR in 1983 with the Division of Watercraft. In August of 1988, Baer transferred to the Division of Wildlife as an investigator for the Lake Erie Law Enforcement Unit. Then in 1989, Baer transferred to Wood County where he has served as the wildlife officer until January 2012.

"I am sad to see Marty retire because with him goes a lot of valuable experience” said Kevin Newsome, Baer’s supervisor. “I will also miss working with Marty; his sense of humor made the job more enjoyable. The people of Wood County have been lucky to have Marty for the past 23 years and they can be sure that we will do our best to replace him."

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources ensures a balance between wise use and protection of our natural resources for the benefit of all. Visit the ODNR Web site at www.ohiodnr.com.

I'm just one guy. I hear a lot of things but have witnessed more than I've heard. I personally know of 2 guys who got set up, lied to, guided to break the law by Mr. Baer and then snatched...just so he could get a few more collars under his belt. That's straight up crooked.

Wood county and the rest of the state will be much better off without Marty on the payroll. He was the most unprofessional wildlife officer I have ever met. He acted towards the general public like everyone was breaking the law. When approached he was nothing short of a f..n jerk like you were wasting his valuable time. He has made nothing but enemies his entire career from his bullshit attitude and above the law mentality. Without his badge to hide behind he better watch his back because there are many guys who owe him one. I'm not promoting anything just stating an opinion.

Have seen a couple of guys venture out in the river but no reports of anything caught yet.

Well looks like mother nature has stopped teasing and taunting us with good weather! By the looks of the weather forcast it might be a normal start after all! Oh well. If there's no ice I'm going to try my luck this week by the mouth of the river and behind the power plant to see if I can find any staging to go up river. I'll let you guy's know if I make it and how I do.

The water level has dropped a lot in last couple of days. Some ice in back coves but thats about it. Bluegrass is easily accessable. By the looks of it all the high water moved a lot of rock bars this winter, wade with care if venturing out.

So my buddy is gone. I'm so sorry.
Depressed (not because of that). No ice & not really into snagging carp. Maybe try Maumee Bay tomorrow (for crappies).
