I think this rain will not affect the river positively. The ground is SO DRY. The earth is going to suck all this rain up. We will be lucky to see the river swell. Hopefully Ft. Wayne is getting pounded.
More fish for me last night! I fished an area that I never go to, well upriver...maybe where Fisherboy was going. I hardly ever use the bridge to get back and forth. But I was getting fish in nicely last night. 3/8 oz jig and banging them in the mouth! More jacks were coming in than females last night from what I saw.
Maybe I should join Gary's tourney. If everyone didn't cheat I would. Guys have been saving fish for days to enter into the tourney. But Gary can't control that. He won't measure snagged fish, so be sure to cover up your snag marks with mud.

With all the other comments yesterday I didn't even report on our lake trip. Graybeard, the Birdman and Mrs and myself went out and the amount of vehicles with trailers at the dock was truly amazing. I have never seen so many boats on the lake.We fished 2 different reefs with mixed results. Graybeard got 2, the Birdman 3, and myself 3 including 1 nice 25 in 6.5 lb jack. Graybeard continued to be the "Sheep" king as is normal. It looked like the early boats did better than the later especially the huge pack around L can. The water wasn't too bad considering the amount of east wind the last week.
We were jinxed by Friday The 13Th someone kept reminding us.Today was a lot better
Did a double limit today. 2 WE (not my normal 1). Also 2 snagged WE & 4 suckers. Broke even on weights & jigs.
Still at BW. Don't know why I'm afraid to fish bluegrass.
i'm going out early tomorrow. does this little amount of rain we got change where you would fish? I was thinking Jerome Road/Bluegrass area? What do you think?
The rain did not make the water level rise at all. So it's still low everywhere.
Caught a 31" today. Problem was the petrol fins do not have mouths. Also a possible Fish Ohio one which was missing a mouth in the back. Plus 3 other snagged WE. But on the + side 4 suckers, 2 quillbacks, a danny WB & 3 keepers (WE) including a Fish Ohio one. It was an unspawned female whose eggs will fill my belly. (The other 2 large ones were also unspawned females.)
Had a nice 30 minutes talk with 1 of the DNR guys prior to fishing. Took a look thru his spy glass. They do work good. Very friendly & while he saw me fishing a lot he had no idea who I was which is the way it should be.
do you ever eat the walleye fish eggs??
Yes I do.
How do you cook the row? I had some perch row when I was a kid, and have thought about trying the eggs again. But I don't know how to prep them.
sounds like a great idea doc...i should have froze 5 walleye and won that tournament. I will remember that for next year and you will see JARRIS FONTAINE at the top of the leaderboard bringing home that stack of cash my NIGGAS
Where were you fishing at fisherboy? Thinking of trying it tomorrow eve.
Lucked into 3 nice jacks plus a nice whitebass fishing bluegrass straight across from buttonwood. Wind was a little tricky but after a few adjustments it went pretty well. All 3 eyes looked very fresh. Is it possible a few more made there way up from. The lake?
I had a good day this morning as well over at bluegrass. So did everyone around me. Maybe it was the fun weather?
Hey Fisherboy how did you manage to stay standing up out in that wind today. I came by Buttonwood but was tight on time so was not able to fish.
Just fry the roe the same as fish but leave it steam with the lid on for a while.
It was not easy standing up to some of those gusts of wind today. I seriously lost my balance but managed not to fall.
1 WB, 2 QB, 4 suckers, 3 snagged WE & 5 legal ones. I upgraded from a margionally small one to a larger
size rather than take a chance with you know who. All males. Except for 1 of the 2 I lost due to crappy nettings, a huge hog.
Saw a lot of fish leaving Bluegrass shortly after I started fishing. Besides too lazy to try different locations I'm also a little late to the fishing hole.
what time did you get there fisherboy?
around 9 or so/ I'm up early today
Empty stringer today. Really hard to find a good drift!
Hookteye I'm surprised none. Started around 8:15, done by 11:00. Did not leave of course. Upgraded 2 times, handed off once, threw 1 or 2 back. Caught 5 or so quillbacks & suckers plue 2 or 3 snagged WE.
Funny thing is when I got there the guy on my right (a friend) got his 1st one & managed to get his 4 fast. (An underwater guy so who knows). The guy on my left banged 2 which gave him 3. Still had none. Another friend came (who normally can outfish me - at least on the Bluegrass side). He gave me luck - got my 4). The guy on my left was now struggling to get his last & refused a hand off once or twice. Finally he relented in time to pull in a sucker. We tried again & this time it was a WE. Finally left at 1:00. Thank god my friend carried my fish plus his 2 back to the car. 2 females, one soft & 1 hard as a rock.
& i could not believe how much lower the water level was. Yesterday I was beaching the fish on that large flat rock. Today it was completely dry.
you on bluegrass fisherboy?? What end>
Buttonwood dead fisherboy? Started at 7 today quit by 930. Headed to fremont just to take a look. Not many guys, extremly low. On the bright side seen a couple guys with 15-20 white bass each plus another guy with 2 eyes up by the park area, back in elyria by noon. Might try fremont on thursday and hope for a nice mixed stringer! If the maumee shows any sign of rising I will see you another time or two fisherboy. If not, well I guess we will do it again next year. Keep me posted on your sucess or hell even you failures are entertaining!
Not dead for me. See above. But was hoping for some WB just for something different. Bluegrass did look dead to me. & yes not a hell of a lot of current.
As Dinah Washington sang "What A Different A Day Makes" that applies to WE fishing for me. This morning sucked big time - 2 suckers & 1 snagged WE. Only saw 4 caught where I was. Guys at Bluegrass did not appear to be doing any better.
Glad I had things to do with my wife at our camper & an appointment tomorrow morning. It will be interesting to read Gary's comments about today.
