Fish Kill

Due to the extreme heat and high water temperature last week on the Maumee River there was a fish kill. Many fish were found dead near Sidecut. As we were fishing last week we watched the dead fish float by. There were mostly walleye and sucker that we saw dead.

You get all of those fish in your usual spot Fisherboy?

Nope. Closer to home. Went after a early supper tonight. Only 20 WB, 4 SB (1 16"), 1 cat & a few sheephead & a sucker. No WE but a nice saugeye. 1/16 oz jig used.

Had a nice slip on some rocks & moss tonight. Glad there was a person who helped me up. Fell last week at Van Tassel. Getting too old to be left alone???? But I did managed to climb up & down the cliff at Rock de Borg Sunday. That would have done me in for a while if I had fell. But back to ponds this weekend at the campground.

Spend a few minutes driving over the Waterville Bridge. It is SO LOW! There is slate visible everywhere and only little trickles or fingers of water making its way through. My gosh, the river is in bad shape. I hope more fish don't die.

Actually the river is higher than it was Thursday. You can see moss floating down the river & the rock 'islands' not showing as much. This was in the Jerome road area. & fishing was very slow.

Went down Sat evening to usual spot. The water had come up 10 in or so and much better flow had the cats biting pretty well. Lot of moss floating down that was probably washed out of low water areas. Caught about 20 cats in 2 hours. No really big ones and a lot of Doc W size ones(midgets)

Fish a couple days with my son around Jerome. Decent 1 day - 15 smallmouths - 2 were legal size & 1 day was lousy. Couple WB. With the water higher went back to my normal place of summer fishing. He got 1 WE & I managed 2. We got 2 catfish, 2 WB, 2 SB, a sucker, 2 shad, 2 sunfish & around a dozen sheephead. He got the catfish, WB, SB & shad. I got most of the sheephead. Nope no FO. (Did managed a 21" a while back.) Using jijs.
