Few and Far Between
Saturday Update: The river is down to 4.9 on NOAA. More guys will try Ft. Meigs this weekend by wading from the lower lot over to the peninsula. Bluegrass is still not accessible. Schroeder Farms opened yesterday. I went out last night and got a sucker in the mouth. I saw a group of 4 guys and one person had one walleye. Welcome to all the new guys who posted on my last comment...Cody, RTSJ, Myles and KCBUCK, glad to have you here. It sounds like the Sandusky River is picking up. Reminder to those who try walking on land from the lower lot upriver: you must have permission to walk on private property. Enter at your own risk and BEWARE OF DOGS! No permission?...don't do it. The two land owners asked me to post this. Where Ft. Meigs ends, private property begins. It's best to cross to the little finger of land prior to entering the woods (you can do it but move quickly through that mud) or cross to the main peninsula from the lower lot. Stay off their land please. Taking the short cuts I just mentioned will save you 20 minutes each way. Good luck fishing this weekend!

what about walking from shroeders to meigs?? is that legal? i have done that many times when the water is too high to cross
Once you leave Schroeders and walk east you are on private property and the landowners don't seem to mind until you get to the creek. The land east of the creek is the area Doc W is talking about and the section you go through to get to the island is the posted property. The biggest issues all of these landowners have to deal with is the litter and line left all over the place by the few slobs who mess it up for everyone else. I have talked to these landowners and some have had their dogs get severely tangled and injured from the stuff left from the run. We(myself and Doc) spend a lot of time later in the year on the river and the amount of trash we pick up is really discouraging.
yeah i understand the issues with trash but even if no one goes in there when the river floods its going to wash garbage and line into there either way.
Dbldip, Last year the one day the Perrysburg township Police were down there at the path from FtMeigs at the fence with the no trespassing signs and they came down to the river and ran everyone off that was on private land.A Couple guys were arguing with them at the river the police walked them off I don't know how that ended .
I think the Police were called because one of the owners was down at the fence turning the people around and they were giving him a hard time.
Doc W. Thanks for the welcome. Really itchin to get out there but this damn weather got me worried. Got the gear and boat all ready to go and fired up the motor and no water. Pulled it into the garage and changed the impeller and still no water. Taking it to the marine mechanic tomorrow. Hope its ready for the weekend.

Unfortunately a lot of people are mislead to think that all of the river is free access which is far from the truth. You are good at any parkland either side but private land does extend to the river and the landowners have the final say. My recommendation is if you don't know the landowner and have permission you shouldn't be there. Today there were several guys wading way out at Orleans and a few boats up above the bridge by the island, don't know how they did but it was far from the 72 degrees of last year on this same date.
Dbldip.Did you get the sinkers poured to appease the river Gods????????????????
Several guys fish in that location every year and i'm sure would like nothing more than to have that area all to themselves. I cant blame the land owners, they pay the taxes for the property and have the right to kick anyone off there land. Hunchback is right the trash and line mostly comes from the losers up river that are too lazy to pick up after themselves. They are the guys the DNR should be watching out for.
Graybeard no not yet, will get some made this week. Fish Dominator, I could not agree with you more! Good luck guys.
Dbldip 'were you down there when the Doctor that lives on the Hill came down and had us picking up trash,I did not want to piss him off..It might have just Birdman and me,He was also trimming trees .he was not happy about people using his property..
Snagged around 15 eyes at Fremont this morning, and caught 1 legally. Talk about bad conditions, my toes are still numb! Fish are in thick but without some warmer temps I don't see a good bite happening anytime soon. Next week?????
Doc. W. I'm new to your blog - actually joined a few years ago but never really posted anything - Great posts and great pointers. I've been going up to Maumee for 3 yrs and have 2 foul hooked, thrown back Walley not to show for it :) Looking to catch my first Legit Walley this run! Thanks for the Blog!
Wondered why no new posts. Was reading & posting to old post.
Looks almost nice enought to go fishing. Temp is 26! Hookteye snag 1 for me (release it of course). Sounds good in the Sandusky for the quanity of fish.
This weather and the DNR have something in common they both suck.no but really this time last year I already had multiple limits by this time .starting to get a little discouraged all I want to is just catch some eyes. Come on spring
By the look of it its gonna be slow till Easter weekend of just after. Some 50 temps with a nice push of water would be nice. FRUSTRATING!!!!!!!!
Roy
I will be heading up to fish this upcoming weekend with 4 of my buddies. Hopefully with the temps rising a little bit we can land some eyes. Ill keep you guys updated. Great forum btw. I'm sure this will be very informal once the run really kicks into gear !
I'll be up there as well with a group of 4-5, one guy is a walleye run virgin, so I'm hoping we can pick up a few to try and teach him the ropes.
We saw two picked up last Saturday at Schroeders, but I think he just got lucky. They were the only two I saw all day.
Fisherboy, did you put your ice fishing gear away yet? Think you can get a good drift through the ice? Hope your feeling better!
Funny thing is I went to Bass Pro & picked up 2 'baitcasters' reels for my ice rods. I actually worked on the rods for next season. Temp here is 20 degrees. Christ I may never get fishing even if I get better. But then the WB may be hitting. LOL
Do you guys think will still have a good run this year? This weather is killing me.
Can anyone give me a rundown on the basic equipment I would need to experience the walleye run? i have chest waders and rod. Been wanting to do this for 30 yrs. I finally have time off thanks guys..
