Pre-Season Warning
It sounds like a few fish were taken yesterday! That's really cool. The river is on a slight rise to 4.6. NOAA has us going up several feet, but I would doubt it. We have rain coming in, but by Tuesday there will be a west wind to push it all out again.
WARNING: The DNR are at their old tricks. If you look in this year's fishing regulations, there is not any mention of the walleye limit being 4 between March 1 and May 1 like they have always directly stated in the past. HOWEVER, it does mention that all regulations from the previous year are in effect until May 1 in a different section. Therefore, the limit in the Maumee River is 4 walleye per day until May 1. Don't let the DNR trick you into a ticket. I bet we hear a lot of guys getting bagged for over-the-limit due to this wording. All of this is just another example of the ODNR operating well below our expectations. Don't blame the officers or park rangers since apparently the higher-ups are screwed in the head too. But as anglers we hold the responsibility to stay informed.

Hey doc Eugene here. Hope you have a great run this year. What do you know about these youtube videos of salmon caught out of the maumee
They were caught by the Providence Dam on the North side of the river. Also a few were seen near the Mary Jane Thursdan dam i Grand Rapids.
what were they doing in there and is this a common thing?
Managed to get one eye in Fremont this morning! About 20 guys, seen 1 other caught legally
Going to give it a go Sat for the first time. Hopefully we get a good push of fish.
Thanks for the blog Dr walleye. Well I am going to be on the river in the am after 7yrs living in California. My mother recently passed and now i am at the in laws for a few days in BG. Was going to go fishing tomorrow but developed a cought, sore throat & headache. Of course this happened after I saw a dr on another matter. If not better, I'll have to be a virgin for another day.

Went to SP & BW with my dog. No way did I have the energy to try. A couple of guys were going down. Suspossely snaged 6 yesterday. A little BS perhaps? Talked to a guy leaving BW. Said he got a sucker. Water was on road to creek. But not high enought to keep a delicated snagger (oops fisherman)from tring the Beach Hole. May try the river Friday.
Thanks for the fishing reports guys. Shawn...try White St. on the Maumee side and welcome back to Ohio. With high water it's a good place to try. Devils17: the river will open by the weekend. People will go to White St and also Orleans. A few at Ft. Meigs lower lot will try to wade out. Bluegrass won't be open. Fisherboy: feel better soon man. Graybeard: it's ok to fish when not sitting in a boat!! You should try it. Gatlin Man: great luck to you! And Hookteye: keep us posted on the Sandusky. Hunchback: welcome back. You need a new name, Ace. To all: we needed this high water. I mean, it's not super high but any increase in flow should trigger some fish regardless of water temps. It happens every year.
