Steady Stats

The river is low at 3.4 on NOAA. This is a great time to get out to the river and check out how it has changed since last fall. Things shift around so much, and with the water low, you can check your old haunts to see if they're still accessible. So many times guys think the river is "the same as last year" and then end up getting wet in a washed out tree stump. Or worse, boaters will plow through what once was open...only to find their prop banging against a new sand bar...or worse. Be careful your first few times out fellas. Take your time. Carry a strong stick with you to poke around and feel in front of you if you wade. No walleye have been taken yet, to my knowledge. If you are coming here from the link on Chris Vicker's page from Channel 11, we welcome you here. And I say "we" since so many people are long time visitors to my blog. This must be year #4 or 5 for my blog, and I always appreciate return viewers. A lot people check out this page to determine if they should drive in from many miles away. Let me save you some time, based on almost 30 years of river experience. Bookmark me, and stay current on all things WALLEYE. Here are some interesting stats about my blog. People from 6 countries have been here. Viewers from mobile devices far outweigh laptop computer users in the most recent year. Android devices and iPhones top the list of mobile devices while windows users make the largest overall percentage in this blog's history (that will change). People find my blog from google and google+ most often. Yesterday, 328 people viewed my blog. When I make new posts the visiting spikes since lots of people are automatically notified of the update. 43682 visits here have been made since my blog's inception (I had to change my hit counter a few years ago, so the number at the bottom is off). I could open my blog to advertising now, but I won't do it. Even though I could make a few bucks I would rather weigh on the side of free speech, which I hold almost as dear as the 2nd Amendment. Advertisers are not for me. I would rather keep this blog clutter-free and focused on what people have to say. That in mind, I have several options for people to use to view and post here. And I have the dialogue box fixed where people type in a code to be able to post, and that cuts way down on spam. So enjoy the blog this year, and thanks again for visiting. Dr. Walleye

I am local but still enjoy reading your blog. It's still great to know the info. I think people will try this weekend but with the cold water temps, agree the first one may not be caught until mid next week.

Thinking about poking around on Saturday to see what changed. River is going to be on the rise early next week. Keep an "eye" out for the holes. Later

i walked the river after the last big high water.A lot of rock piles moved some ..I don't think it bothered a couple of our spots .looks like the Start of the shoots has filled some.I guess the next big flood will change things again

I think a couple of us may get in the river Saturday, if nothing else, just to get up there and look around. Looking forward to this season.
