A Wet and Windy Forecast + New Poll
Today we start the blog with some weather information. Rain is forecast for Monday-Thursday both here and in Ft. Wayne. From showers to some thunderstorms to some drizzle, the water will get soaked up by the land first and then make it's way into the river basin. While not yet projected, the NOAA report will show a sharp increase in level and flow but will only reach about 2/3 of what they forecast. So stay tuned, and I will keep you updated on actual level incease throughout the week so you can plan for next weekend. Wind: big out of the west and south for a few days and then a turn from the east on Wed/Thurs. If the river crests by Friday/Saturday, look for spectacular main-run fishing the week of April 15. Fishing report: I didn't hear much yesterday. I can only imagine that plenty of guys got their limits and plenty got none. Technique is key this time of year. I still stay true to bouncing light leadheads at this water level and wind. I can cast shorter and reach the bottom quickly and stay out of the crosshairs of people casting farther with floaters. Common sense and watching the guys next to you will verify few tie-ups. I don't always cast when I'm ready to do so. I'll look left/right and wait for lines to clear. It makes a better day for everyone. DNR report: the white ranger SUVs are used to transport DNR officers to/from their blinds. The green ODNR trucks travel to make the busts. And the undercover guys fishing next to you wait and then bust multiple people at a time since it blows their cover. One guy got busted this weekend for keeping a legal fish but a floater was stuck in the fish's tail. We saw a guy in a boat the other night catch over 4 legal fish, under the guise of giving them to his fishing partner I am guessing. These guys get busted a lot when they return to shore. Lastly, I have a new poll to the left about how far you drive to get here.

Went Out Today It was Super Windy At Bluegrass Got A Couple Bites I Seen A Few Bring In 2-3 jacks IT Was Too Crowded So We Left And Went To White Street Where Tha Water Was Calm And It Wasnt Too Windy either . I Hooked A Huge Jack Brung It 2 Ft Away From The Bank Then It Snapped A 10LB LINE I WAS MAD BUT by the way i think walleyes are going after live bait more than Jigs
Fished friday only getting 3 legal and 7 snagged. Sat got 4 legal and 5 snagged and today only fished for 2.5 hrs and got 2, both legal. Caught 3 females this weekend and all were full of eggs, back they went. My 7 yr old caught(snagged) a 30" female his second cast on friday. Wish i could post pics.. Water was so low for us boaters. Watched a bunch of boats hit rocks all 3 days and a few get stuck and have to get out and push. Will be back out this weekend to hit them after the rain. And by the way i'm the retard that drives 250+ miles to fish the run. This is my 10th yr and LOVE IT!!!!!

i have always wondered why people take travel so far with a boat and then take it up the river. You can catch more fish in the bay. I can see waders but why travel that far and not fish the bay instead
Well got my 1st Fish Ohio WE today. Did not weight since it was half spawned out. Other then that had 3 snaged WE. If I wasn't too lazy to leave the rock I sat on numerous times reting I could have moved to the hot spot of the day. But a fun day. Going to take day off tomorrow from fishing.
Glad to hear about the fish ohio fisherboy! I've been doing fairly well in Fremont, it's kinda nice catching eyes from the shore. By the way, I drive from Elyria which is 90 miles east of maumee and I make the trip 15-20 times a year. Tight lines
Sorry no post this weekend, posting on my android is a pain. My brother and buddy fished Schroeders and BW Friday, and ended up with 3 fish total. Saturday, My brother and I both got our limits at BW, one of the jacks my brother pulled in was 6.28 lbs, very nice fish. yesterday was rough, the wind was tearing us up, mix that in with the high sticking long liner above us, and it was a recipe for disaster. We managed 4 fish between 3 of us.
My last fish I caught Saturday got caught up in a bunch of line, just out of reach from where the line of people were standing. An older gentleman was kind enough to wade out in the faster current on that slick bottom and net it for me, never got his name, but it's nice to see guys out there helping each other out.
I drive up from Cincy to Lima, where my family is, then we drive to the river from there. Total trip is just over 200 miles, and we make the trip every weekend the fish are running, lots of road time.
Hookteye, I was wondering about you
since you have not posted lately. I go in streaks. Usually if I strike out I'm not too trilled to post. Guess it's my ero. Glad to hear you are getting some in Fremont. I believ we will get enough to eat. LOL
Eugene....I drive down from Columbus when my job permits. I was there last Wednesday and fought the crowd and managed to take home my limit. I am interested in your comment about taking my boat to the bay and trying my luck. Would you mind answering a few questions for me please? How much further up do I drive from the Perrysburg exit? I am not that experienced in boating, I have a17' deep V Lund with a 115 Mercury; do I have to worry about shallow water in the bay? Anything I need to be aware of in that area to keep my boat and myself safe? Thanks so much for any insight that you might provide.
Has anyone been down to the river this week with all the rain because if they havent these fish are gettin away like crazy.... Will the river be slammin the weekend or same as usual my guess os slammin since the river will be high
It will not be slamming this weekend. The river is predicted to rise from 2.68 ft to 11.4 ft. If it reaches 11.4 or anywhere near that it will be unfishable.
To all the guys like myself that drive over 50 miles to fish the river. Eugene is right the river is predicted to rise by over 11 feet and crest around Sunday. The river will be virtually unfishable. The water will be up to the Meigs parking lot and half way up the Buttonwood walkway. the water will be over the banks at Orleans and Bluegrass will be totally flooded out. With that being said don't waste your time and gas making the trip.
Man o' man when that water comes down to 582-583 fishing will be incredible. My favorite depth. Can't wait for that. This water should bring in a giant run of fish. Fingers Crossed!!!!!

Hey Eugene I saw your picture again at Garys on 4-6-13 with another limit. It's good to see older guys out there tearing it up and enjoying life.
