Drop in river levels: FINALLY!

Get ready for some good fishing this week, starting today if you want to fish in the rain. We're at 6.1 on NOAA, a one foot drop from yesterday. While standing by the river last evening the wind switched quickly to all EAST for about 3 hours. Finally at night it tapered off. We just had a nice, steady rainfall this morning. It should be dry for a few hours with more rain coming in by 4:00. People will finally try some of their favorite spots since the river opened up to us overnight. Let me know how you do in the next few days and I'll try to do the same. I'm still looking for a trophy walleye but fear the big females are already spawned. I would be surprised to find a hard female this late in April but sure will try!

Wondering about the fishing results from the group. I assume i could have made it across all the chuts ok. I might want to try it tomorrow afternoon.
I fished the beach at BW. 8suckers, 1 quillback & 1 shad. Oh yes, 2 WE. 1 of them was another FO - 28 1/2" & 8+ lbs. I guess that's the normal weight for that size.
Bad thing is I lost my container of jigs & weights. Believe it happened when I took my sweater off. Had to pick up some jigs from the shore. Plus get a couple from the guys fishing. Thanks god most fishermen are OK guys.

Fisherboy, myself and birdman each got 3 last night, Doc W 4 and the other guys 1 and 2. Went back this morning and I got skunked on legals, had 3 throwbacks. Birdman had 3 when i left but had thrown back 3 or 4 shorts. Graybeard had 2 I believe. There were many short walleyes showing up today like 12 to 14 inches long. I was surprised in the lack of walleyes overall with the near perfect water level for the area we were fishing. The guys on the sewer on Maumee side between the bridge and bluegrass were bringing in lots of fish.

Pleased to say that I finally caught my first walleye at Orleans Park near the bridge although I hooked it in the gills, guy next to me said I probably didn't recognize the bite and set the hook fast enough, but even so it was awesome hoping to make it up next weekend as well.

Talked to Birdman about the chuts. Nice to know the water height.Really surprised that there were not more fish there. I thought it would be 1 after another.
Was going to fish the fire ring at BW. Glad I didn't. Heard there were only junk fish there. Tried the Beach again. Got 4, 1 snaged & 5 assorted junk fish. Sandy had about 5 White Bass so the're comin'. & no the fishing was not fast for me. I had to work my ass off to get mine. Even had to grab 2 by hand.

Can I ask...where is the "beach"? This is the second time I have heard that this season.
I finally got the chance to hit the river on a NICE day! I managed one keeper and one snagged. my buddy had 3 one the stringer, would have had his limit if he hadn't dropped one putting it on the stringer :( He also snagged one. In the two hours we fished we saw zero white bass....but plenty of other junk fish.

The Beach is at BW (Buttonwood) to thr right of the road going to the river. It kind of looks like a beach when the waater is loww.

Devin: the river is nice and level at just under 6.0. Fishing is really good and will be the next several days we think.

Thought the fishing sucked today. Yes I know you got your limit J. Measured the 1st WE I got. Not quite 15". Did managed 2 decent keepers around 19", 1 an unspawned female. 7 suckers, 1 QB & 1 buffalo. I know of 3 guys who had 3 & gave up on the 4th. Water appeared to be little higher than yesterday afternoon.

What do you think about Friday?

Sucked worst today Wed. Went to BW. Late around 3:30. Too many people at Beach hole so I decided to try the Fire Ring hole (around 200 yards to the right of the road). High but fishable. Caught a 6 pack + of junk fish until a guy lost around 30 yards of line. Hole became unfishable then. Did not see any WE there. No idea what the Beach hole was doing.
Stoped & watch the fishing at the SP (Orleans back lot) for a while. It appeared about 50% of the fishermen had 1 WE. A couple had 2 & 1 guy had his limit - 6. Lucky him. All were runts & I know some were less than 15". Guess the DNR are not doing their job. LOL!
A reasonable # of WB were caught too.

yeah run is pretty much over. I had 2 walleye, 4 white bass, 21 quilbacks, 4 redhorse, 5 buffalo and a common carp today. Plus had probably another 15-20 junk fish on and lost. Found Carpopolis. Was fun but wish i could have got a couple more walleyes.

Fisherboy.I guess we are just loosers..

FISHING REPORT 5/02/2013

AANFISHING WAS GOOD YESTERDAY. MORE THEN A FEW WENT HOME WITH THEIR LIMIT OF SIX WALLEYE. NOT EVRYONE IS LIMITING OUT. BUT MOST ARE GOING HOME WITH WALLEYE. ALL ACCESS SITES ARE PRODUCING FAIR TO GOOD CATCHES. WE ARE ONLY SIX INCHES AWAY FROM WADING TO BLUEGRASS ISLAND. THE RIVER LEVEL SHOULD DROP AT LEAST SIX INCHES BETWENN NOW AND TOMMOROW MORNING. BESIDES THE USUAL CAROLINA RIG WITH A FLOATER, I HAVE HAD A FEW TELL ME THEY TOOK FISH ON THE WEDDING RING. ALSO THE CHATTER BAITS SHOULD START PRODUCING AS WELL. CHATTER BAITS CATCH WALLEYE AND WHITE BASS. GOOD FOR SMALLMOUTH AND LARGEMOUTH BASS. TRY IT IN YOUR FAVORITE POND OR LAKE. THEY WORK GREAT. WHITE BASS ARE STARTING TO PICKUP MORE. STILL NOT THE BIG NUMBERS LIKE THERE WILL BE SOON. WE SEEN AND HEARD OF CATCHES FROM 6 TO 24 FISH. LOOKS LIKE ANOTHER GOOD DAY TODAY NEAR 80 DEGREES AND SUNNY. GOOD LUCK FISHING !

if gary calls that fishing good yesterday then he is more bogus than i ever thought. wow he must be more stoned than usual. I guess $$ and costa rica are all that is on his mind. screw the customers

Eugene for once i agree with you. Today was another wonderful day. Lost 1 WE trying to grab, caught 1 small one which I am having for supper & 3 WB. Guess I am a looser as Graybeard says.

Is there a limit for white bass?

Unknown said...

yeah fisherboy....similar results here. gary must think that if 4 out 400 people fishing bring walleye up to the shop fishing is good
