FISH ON!
The river is at 6.5 this morning. We clobbered the fish yesterday. Limit of 4-6 pound females home. Lots of throwbacks. Lots of carp and a few suckers. Game on people! Grab your rod and get to the river!
I'm not an expert on the river like most if you guys are. Could you help a fellow angler out? What are some good spots to go to? A little more specific then just saying Orleans etc. thank you
Come on Devils17 do you really think we are going to tell you our spots. Then you come ,you bring a buddie and before you know it there is 50 new guys at a your hot spot. The general area is a good start. That being said the area in front of the Orleans boat ramp is always a good spot at this water level.
Btw I wasn't asking to give up your " hot spot". I was just asking if you could give a good idea on where to go when water is high or low. From what I have been reading it sounds like most of you have fished the river for awhile and know quite a bit. So I thought I would ask. That is all
All I have to so it was a damn good day, and to the guy that dove in after his fish, this beer is for you! Devil, all you gotta do is go observe for a while before you fish
Munchsack ... I mean hunchback. Really? Does it do any good to never shut up about it. I'm more apt to take a female just cause you're such a douchebag about it. If the data supported that it was depleting the fishery, you can bet your wrinkled arse it would be regulated. I hate that this is my first post. But really man it has gotten old.
good one bro....real original. Obviously when the limit continues to drop and they are talking about dropping it to 3 there is some data backing it. Limit going from 10-4 in just a few years is pretty significant
FrostyMug: your comment is the most intelligent in weeks. Eugene Hunchback can't make a name for himself since he sucks at fishing. So he pawned a picture, made up a fake login name, passes himself off for someone he is NOT, and pretends to be a walleye fisherman. And for the record, I got my limit again tonight.
Wish I was as hot this year as some of my prior years but I did take home a danny female. Threw back 6 snaged ones & lost a few others. On my way out I saw 3 or 4 DNR trucks in the Orleans parking lot. They actually had a guy with his hands behind his back in handcuffs & was handing his buddy a sheet of paper. A couple of the DNR guys were wearing street clothes. No idea what happened. Sure glad I had nothing to feel guilty about as I walked torwards the action. & yesterday I also saw a fisherman dive after a fish. He caught the bugger by hand.
Water on its way back up tomorrow night. Predicted to crest at 585 and a few inches. U guys think it will bother the fishing? I got a bunch of high water sports but just curious if the 2' rise in water will shut the fish off?
Devils 17: hang in there. Look on the water surface for smooth areas that eddy up behind rock piles. Drift through it. Be mobile and move around if only a gew steps. Fish are in close right now.

Wow guys, do whatever you feel you need to do as a fisherman. The limit has gone down for a reason, you think its gonna go back up keeping every female? I caught my limit in 1 hour yesterday with 1 female on the stringer so I stuck around, caught a jack and swapped it out. I think its the true sportsman thing to do when the females are hard with eggs. Walleye are a NATIVE species to these waters, do reproduce, and don't swim up river and die. They go back to the lake unlike salmon.I even heard they might give the walleye a break for an entire season on the river. Does keeping ripe females hurt or help the walleye population? Its not rocket science and that's just me.
They will never shut down the river for walleyes. The almighty dollar will see to that. It is a personal decision to keep what you catch as long as its legally caught so to the guys that throw back every female I commend you and to the guys who keep them so be it. Not everyone has 10 hours to wait for that last jack.
I agree with Dbldip. I don't keep females but u do what u want when u buy your lic. and catch them legal. Its an ethics/moral debate. Its all choice and no ones business but the one fishing.
Theres really no difference if u let a female go almost certain someone else will get it and probably keep it i personally havent kept many females but why give it to someone else
Dr. Walleye why do you think Eugene is a fake? His picture is at Garys 3 times lately. Ive seen him myself with his signature walking stick. And to Devils17 it was nothing personel about what I said. I have told people before where I caught fish and the next time I go that guy has his group all over the spot and I can't fish there. The Oreans spot I mentioned produced 5 fish for me today before the wind got to much to feel a bite.
Fish Dominator, The pictures on the website and person you are talking about is not the person who goes by "Eugene the hunchback of the maumee" on this blog. The person in the pics is on this blog under a different name and has been since the blog started. I have known him personally for 20+ years or so.
A little more fun today. Fish size ranged from 28 1/2" to 15". Also couple of fish in between. The female was about 50% spawned out but still was overe 8 lbs. & I appreciated the smaller one just as much as the others. A hell of a lot lighter to carry to the car. Only snaged 3 WE, 2 of which were hogs. Plus 2 jumpers, shad.

Look I'm just looking for help and knowledge. I figured that is what this blog is for.
