Early summer fishing
The Closer, my cousin and I went to Gibsonburg yesterday to the opened village quarry west of town. Fun place to fish! There is a 10 foot underwater bank all around it with the drop-off out from there. Cuz got 11 big rockbass and a largemouth. Closer got a few rockbass. I got one rockbass and 4 largemouth. Wacky worms did the trick for largemouth but I had to keep moving and couldn't stay put anywhere. Largest one was 15".

White Star Quarry might have been a place to try too. I have never tried the quarry you are talking about.
Tried fishing out by Delta over the holidays. A friend (that I always outfish 4 to 1) & I got 45 gills Saturday evening. He beat the hell out of me by a 2 to 1 ratio. On top of that he got 2 FO.
We tried the same spot Saturday afternoon & got 1 gill & 1 LB. What a difference a day makes.
Monday on my way home I decided (in spite of the rain) to try a while. Only 6 gills, but all over 8" , most 8 1/2". But 1 did get a 9" (FO) which made my weekend.
How many FO species do you have for the year now Fisherboy?
#. WE, sheephead & bluegill. I guess I missed the WB ones. I did get quite a few 15" + but none I could stretch enough. (But there was 1 that the guys from Canton was suspossed to measure but lost it in the shuffle of theirs.)
Dbldip a revision to my earlier post. The # stands at 4. I went out around 6:30 Tuesday night. I really was going to just see about the leak in my boots but saw a couple guys coming back with some fish including a rather large WB. Natually i had to try it. Went downriver about 30 yards from the boat launch at Schroeder where the actual river is.. Among the 9 WB & 2 WP was a 16' FO WB.
Yes the cottonwood & the moss was quite a pain in the ass.
I was wondering. Havent hit river in almost a month, see any of my ol buddy garfish hanging around waiting to be snagged.
No cottonwood tonight, just moss, but fishable. Did not see any gar. Managed to get 1 of the following carp, sucker, quillback, buffalo, channel cat & smallmouth. (Where's my sheephead?) Also 10 WB & 2 WP.
Best (??) day in a few. 10 WB in 2 hrs sitting on my ass on the sewer pipe outlet at Orleans. Lost a few also incl some junk fish. Better than sitting at home.
My persnal blog? In any casae, 14 WB at the sewer pipe. All males. Same time- around 7 at night. 3 other guys had similar results - 1 was a mile out from shore.
fisherboy do you know if the gar stay in the river all summer and if so what do people catch them on. Would love to catch one
Not sure if they stay all year but I know alot of people spear them or snag them by accident
yeah i would prefer to catch them. I dont like killing fish aimlessly. Its just a big waste. A gar is a cool looking fish that does no harm.
