Pause in the Action

Well guys, there seems to be a big pause on the river. Since Tuesday I have heard of few walleye being caught, and I've gotten reports on 10 really good anglers. The big slow down started unfortunately. Some walleye too small to keep are all I have heard of except one from Fisherboy home. Buttonwood levels are great but no walleye. Good current below the island, and no walleye. Lots of whitebass are around and also carp, quillies and some big buffalo. So this weekend will be fishable but you'll have to work for keeper walleye. I am hoping that with dropping levels some fish upriver will wind through and we will get them on their way out.

Started at BW yesterday and caught a shat load of junkfish and whitebass. Went up to Orleans and got my 6 by mid afternoon. They were way out. Couple boats were tearin 'em up. I did see a couple other limits from the 'line' but as Waders said it took some patience ... to catch fish as well. Short casters and 'drifters' were the order of the day. I mean hey if the fish are in close, cast short, but if they aint either cast where they are or go away. Done ranting. Have fun out there! I'm an outta towner and this was my last trip for the year ... Another vacation day without my wife and I'll find myself with plenty of time to fish.

I'm with you Frosty, my last weekend up there was when I was camping through the 21st, as an out of towner, and being up there EVERY weekend since the beginning of march, my wife was threatening me daily to spend a weekend on the honey-do list. I'm done for the year as well. Ended up with 28 fish, being out 12 times. Not as great of an average as I'd have liked, but between my brother and I we managed 51 fish, most of which were all good sized fish, and I think all but one were jacks (1 early season female I didn't know was until I cut her open). So we managed to stock the freezer until next year. Thanks again for another year on here Doc.

Hey Doc. Do you think the run this year was a little harder to fish because of the rain. It seems like the river levels were higher for longer periods of time and made it tougher for most to.catch fish including myself. I did learn alot from fishing the high water. By the way i live in the maumee/holland area but know a great place in perrysburg to get a chicago hot dog and a good beer. Id like to buy you a beer or a few and pick your fishing brain over a brew

Frosty Mug: Thanks for the informative post...and I hear you about the "short casters". Kory: congratulations on a fantstic year including your fish home! You nailed 'em. And humbly, you are welcome. Shane: Every year is different. Nothing ever stays the same. I have experienced every possible river condition so far, and yet, I have a lot to learn. Knowing the river levels is vital to catching walleye. As rocks move, stumps get torn out, the banks change, and everything in between, I feel that a true angler is one who stays the course. We all have different locations and backgrounds. But we all love to catch walleye. Thanks for the offer on a brew. Let's have one now on the blog. TIP 'EM UP FELLAS!

Saturday update: plenty of whitebass in there to catch today. We saw the Asian Invasion keeping undersized walleye like they are white perch. That pisses me off. Anyway, we also saw 7 or so good walleye come in. Bluegrass is wide open and all fishing areas are accessible now. Suckers are plentiful.

why is it that the white bass run seems to bring out a trashier group of people. No respect for others and leaves junk everywhere.
