Putt, Putt, Stall
The river has put us on hold. Fishing remains quite slow. Until we get another good rain, all of us will have to punch in and fish on the clock. Boaters yesterday we having a tough time bringing them in. Every now and again there would be a small flurry of fish all at once, but with the river at 3.99 on NOAA, we are sitting very low. I would not call it quits by any means. I got 1 yesterday. I'm thinking that once we get good rain, the last batch of walleye will move in. After all, we got a very late start this year.

Went to BW at 8:15 had breakfast with a group of friends, wished them a safe trip back to Cleveland, said goodby to a couple from south of here & came home without looking at the river.
However at my camper a guy was saying his brother & others did quite well yesterday & this morning fishing from a boat down river from BW. Guess I need a river boat, a lake boat & a quad to get all the walleyes. (Just kidding). But fishing was slow at BW. Doc is sure right in MHO.
You know the walleye fishin sucks when the only pics on Gary's site for Easter Sat is 2 flathead catfish.
I saw that. Was out in mid day for 3 hrs. 2 suckers & 1 quillback. Sucks but I saw a boy around 12 catch his 1st WE. Only 1 I saw.
Should i give it a shot in the morning...any good reports?
I live about 3 hours away and have the day off work tomorrow, is it worth the drive to come up? Did fishing pick up today with the warmer weather? Thanks in advance.
Eric STAY HOME. Saw 3 WE, 2 at my location & 1 was definitely snaged. I live 10 minutes away & I'm not going to be there until late afternoon.
Eric, Good advice from Fisherboy, this sucks having great weather and no fish. I live closer to river than fisherboy and haven't even bothered. Next high water will bring I the big shebang of fish until then only expect a trickle.
Thanks guys, it's nice to have honest feedback. Hope things improve soon.
Thanks Eric we hope we get some water soon also . Pretty darn discouraging right now.
Warriors: this fishing is depressing. The river is so flat. Don't waste your time driving far. I'm within a mile like DBLDIP and won't even go down there. We keep hoping that a big rain will wash in some walleye, but I'm starting to wonder if that will happen since it's so late. Hopefully the late start will bring us one more batch of fresh fish for May. Hopefully they aren't all white bass. If you want a true account of unbiased Maumee River reports, stay tuned to my site. I get nothing; I sell nothing. I'm here for angling success to you all and that's it.
I have been on the maumee two years in a row 2012and 2013 for white bass fishing, I love them and I have been following this blog the whole time.I Even follow Dr. Walleye on Instagram, I watch you guys talk about walleye and i listen to all the action until its over, I will be to see the river may 9th this year do you guys tink the bass will be at its peak by then...PS i also love this blog
StetyB: Thank you so much for your compliments! Once the river rises a few feet we will have a ton of fish in it. The big question is whether or not there will be walleye in there with all of those white bass. We expect rain this weekend. Stay tuned, and I'll tell you what I catch.
i love how gary keeps saying people are getting limits easily but hasnt posted a limit picture in 5 days
Funny how we can get a lesson from Gray when sales are down. I already use the gear he suggests and still little to no action. I have been going to the river for more than 20 years and I know how to fish walleye. It's simple. there are not a lot of fish at this time. I too believe there might be another run with some rain, but it is getting late into the spawn season and it might be time to head to bigger waters!
Thanks Doc...
oh yea Im stetyB,I cant wait to get in that water lol coming from columbus ohio May 9th
I actually saw a limit tonight at BW when I drove by. Heard there were 2 more. A friend had 3 but he started around 8:30 & I saw him around 6:00. Long day i would say. He also had 6 WB.
Fishing pressure (at least from the campground) was very light but talking to campers I have heard of 3 limits, a few of 3 and several 1 and 2's. White bass have picked up a bit and saw my first decent stringer of them.
Caught 2 at Buttonwood in about 2 hours...a few guys next to me each had 3 and seen a woman walk out with 3. Was slow but still enjoyed the fishing
