Welcome to 2019! Started in 2001, this blog provides information about the Maumee River Walleye Run. Instant updates @DrWalleye on Instagram. Check for regular water level updates taken through NOAA as well as my interpretations of them. The action is fast. The information is reliable. And the Ohio Department of Natural Resources enforcement officers are watching--BEWARE!
Hey Doc, or anyone that fishes the run for that matter. I work next to the river and the I-75 bridge and the river from the 75 bridge towards toledo is fairly deep in most spots and I guess I have always wondered why you don't see boaters jigging these areas. I know one reason may be the obvious width of the river and fish not being as concentrated as they are in the usual access areas for the run. Other than that is there any other reasons why you don't see many boaters fishing this area?
Shane i think you nailed it. Too wide too deep and no current to spawn. Guys...via Twitter the park district hopes to open Maumee Sidecut at River Rd this weekend. But no promises.
I am from Indiana and have been fishing the run for about 25 years, mostly bluegrass island and buttonwood. With that said what are my best options for public access? I'm not asking for anyone's secret spot just where would I be better off fishing, white st, Orleans, other? Thanks guys.
