LIMIT!!!
Finally ole Doc W got a limit! It was not as busy out there as yesterday. Maybe the cold/wind kept people away. Graybeard, thanks for all the information. Good to have you on the ground, even if you're not in waders. Maybe we can hit the lake with Birdman again this year! Speaking of him, I saw Birdman walk out with a nice jack--Birdman and DBLDIP are tied! So, there were some suspicious people afoot (DNR). Looks like they need something to do before turkey season. I, too, can attest to the usual spots being less productive this year. Where once there were holes, it's now flat. And where there was water flowing, there are rock piles. The river got beat to hell this winter! So, it is time to get creative. And that's how Closer got his fish too. We fished an area differently and were rewarded. Keep at it everyone!!

Hey Doc...it's Slim Jim once again. First, congrats on your first limit! Second, I am trying to locate the White Street access on map of Maumee, but have been unsuccessful. Any way you could direct me in the general direction to find it. Thanks so much!
Just east of downtown maumee on the anthony wayne trail you will see a road sign for white street turn right and go to the end of the road, you will see it.
mid day fishing sucked.wind and slow fishing saw 2 limits come off the point of the Island at Ft Meigs and a bunch of ZEROS,DBLDIP was smart not to go I managed 1 legal Birdman 0 .a lot of people walking down from Schroders only had to yell at one guy on private property
Yea Graybeard, I wish Matt Markey from the Blade would emphasize that not everyplace is public access on the river. I saw a lot of trash already down there the other day left by slobs this year. Bottles, food wrappers even a blue tore up rain poncho. I wish the men in the green and black trucks would enforce the no littering rule instead of harassing everyone else.
Can you not walk from Schroeder's to the fort? I've never been down that far. Is it private property... And is it marked? Sorry for all the questions, but I don't want to be a trespasser.
coming from fort wayne fri and sat, watch your blog every year to time our weekend. used to live there 20 years ago and prolly fished along side many of you over the years. thanks for doing this blog, i come here alot every year to check the conditions and and see how you all are doing. now hopefully the wife gets her first river walleye this year. Great Work and thanks again....
Hunter1979, no you cannot walk from Schoeders to the fort without waling on private property. At the end of Schroeders there is a sign that says to stay near the river and not walk up the ditch toward houses to cross in high water. Also, it says to pick up trash. On the fort end, there is private property that is patrolled by the owners. They mainly turn people away that try to walk from the lower lot of the fort and upstream. Paul, thanks for your encouragement and visits. This blog is a lot of fun to awaken each spring. I figured out this year how to post pics directly into messages, so that's been kinda fun. Not as fun as smacking fish but fun. Sending your wife some Dr. Walleye mojo! Best wishes to you both. When my wife caught her first river walleye she drank so much Boone's Farm that she toppled over and fell in ass first! So watch out for that...
Crossing over to Bluegrass is now safe. If you can find somewhere to park!
Well ol Graybeard and the Birdman got their limits and I got 2 throwbacks after finally making it down tonight. Saw quite a few fish over on the Side cut side being pulled in.
You are right Dbldip we also saw a lot of fish caught on the Ford st side many limits in a short period of time. The river has changed a lot from last year .some of our favorite holes have filled in with rocks
I don't get all the negative comments about game wardens. I've fished the Maumee for over 40 yrs. and have seen people do a lot of dumb things. I love it when I see when I see someone get busted for snagging, taking more than a limit, fishing without a license, or litter. I obey the laws and expect others to so the same. If I see a violation I take a picture of the guy (or gal) and immediately call the DNR. I've testified in court as to what I saw and will gladly do it again! Why don't you join me in helping game wardens instead of complaining.
Crankyanker I agree with you a little bit but I have also seen the DNR hassle people for legal fish and for no apparent reason so I goes both ways . I think that's why a lot of locals have negative feelings towards them .personally I've never had a problem but know plenty who have
