Steady

Thank you to the 1,400 unique visitors that came to my blog in the last week. People must be ready to hear about the river run! The Mighty Maumee is steady at +/- 6' depth on NOAA. I would like to see a huge rain come through again, but Tuesday looks like an average rain. Snow melt may help a little bit. But the W/SW wind has a big impact on dropping the level faster than any of us want. * * * The last two years have been unusual for us all. Ice botched early March fishing in both years. Then after the water dropped, we had terribly low water levels, on average, all season long. That allowed many guys to get out fishing, but the numbers of fish coming in were atypically low. I spotted a green DNR truck mid-week on RT 25 in a fast food place already. Both Janns Netcraft and Maumee Tackle are reporting increased business...mostly guys getting all their gear ready. If you're like me, my goal at the beginning of each season is to NOT have to go to a bait store the entire season. By getting ready early, I avoid the crowds and maximize precious fishing time. Nobody wants to get off work and have to wait to get one item. Just some advice there! With that in mind, tonight is my annual Jig Molding Party! Closer, DBLDIP, and other close friends come over and pour lead-heads, sort our plastics, pre-tie floating leaders, drink beer and discuss our strategy for the upcoming season. We've done this for many, many years. It pays to prepare and plan! * * * Best wishes to you all! Walleye season is right around the corner!

One other thing: Cabelas changed their wader return policy. In the past, you could take back leaky waders years later, with receipt, and get a huge store credit for another pair--up to 80-100%. That's gone. Now it's a typical 30 day return. Gone are the days of inexpensive replacement waders...

A friend saw a WE caught this morning (or early afternoon) at White St. Also was told another was snagged there earlier. All I know is what I was told on the phone.
