Top ten things you will NOT hear a walleye warrior say

10. I have to go back home and get my net.
9. Floaters are the only way that I fish.
8. What's a king can?
7. Let's just meet up at Orleans.
6. Gamakatsu who?
5. I've got some ice cold gatorades with me today.
4. I have to get back before dark.
3. Can I borrow a hot pink jig body?
2. You better throw that one back!

And the number one thing you will NOT hear a walleye warrior say...

1. Those DNR guys are the best!

Now, onto another analysis. I went back through my last few years of notes. Last year the ice didn't leave the river till the butt end of February. In 2009 ice was still around in March. So on that we are ahead of schedule, but who knows how much ice is still trapped in Napoleon and at the dam. Yesterday smaller sheet of ice were flowing down past Orleans. It was not as dramatic as usual. Then the river does its usual (and necessary) flood that will push warmer water into the bay thus churning the fish to move upriver. That's about the time that we all wait and wait for the river to drop. By the second week of March is when we usually start to hit into a few, although scarce at first. Lord knows that Closer will give us the updates as he's usually the first guy getting wet. I'm ready to go out there today but will try to stay patient.

Also I see that we have several new members to the blog. Welcome! If you analyze the last few years of data you will begin to see how the NOAA prediction, flow, and my interpretations will help you determine if you can get to your spot. When in doubt, always go to Orleans first. That's where the river is accessible first. Or you can try White Street on the other side of the river. But give it a few weeks. The forecast for this weekend is lots of rain and some sleet. Right now the more water in the river the better.

Hey Doc you forgot, "Who needs waders to catch walleye, I do it from the bank!" or "Ultralights with 6 lb test are the only way to catch walleyes in the river"

Good 2 see you getting those boys down there, we will need them in a few years to carry our fish like we do for fisherboy now!

Hey Doc... what about this one.
"This is fun, how many white Bass can I keep?"

I will make sure the Closer is down there the first day it is safe to be in the water.

Driving by the river today & guess who I saw. One of my buddies. Thought he was going to make a u-turn & pull me over for what I was thinking.

That post almost sounds like me but it wasn't. Glad we are not the only ones that think that way.
