On the SLOW down

Everyone I've talked to has gotten skunked or close to skunked since Monday. Guys are not pulling 'em in. Sure wish I was Fisherboy because at least I would get one! Where are the walleye? They are no longer headed up river and definitely not past the 475 bridge, since the water is so low up there. My guess is the walleye are hanging out by the turnpike bridge. They will clam up and wait for a high water surge. If there is no rain, they will simply head out to the bay. But then a new batch will surge in right behind them, which you can tell by their nice white bellies. So fret not fellow walleye warriors! We're going through a slow spell that might last through the weekend. But eventually with the rain the fishing will pick up. Pray for rain, because even in Ft. Wayne they are not calling for any substantial rainfall this week.

Some other respected anglers out there on the web will suggest that the drop in water temp is the reason for the bite slowing down. There is truth to that. But I will add that the sheer low water affects the bite more. Fish are not on the move. You've seen it...all of a sudden everyone in the line starts getting fish, and then it slows again, only to pick up a half hour later. That happens due to current speed or as NOAA documents it, "flow". When the flow is strong, the fish move around a lot more, regardless of water temp. It's simple: when the water is higher, the flow is stronger depending on wind speed and direction. Plus in high water with low temps, you can still dunk fish in the mouth. Which brings us back to using lead because in high water you can get to the bottom quicker and wash walleye mouths faster than waiting for a floater to get down there.

Oh, the things that come to my mind when we should be talking about limits.

Didn't stay down very long. Hit Bluegrass western end and not much happening. Fisherboy went home with a big goose egg so you know its slow. Did get my limit of 4 green trucks spotted today. One at Bwood and 3 hanging around the maint/ranger shed at Side Cut. 2 had been parked at the end of Ford St earlier to sneek in the back way by the duckpond.

Dbldip maybe you should take up golf also,,I guess the only way we will get any fish this year,is to invite a certain Lady to fill the cooler,,we will just sit back and drink beer,Shit we might not even be able to catch Sheephead this year, might have to settle for those Giant 2 inch White Bass

Yeah DPLDIP, let Birdman know that I may have some time to jump on his boat with you if the lake is in your future.

Yes I have not been making Maumee tackle too often except for a few joke days. Appears to be as many fish 'protectors' hiding in the woods as fish. (& watch what you smoke. They can smell funny cigs.) Getting to be when I get a couple of suckers I call it a good day.

& yes I frooze my ass off today with the wind.
