Saturday update

Walleye warriors,

It's coming soon! The river is still flooded out but we have a 20 mph west wind and no rain in the immediate forecast. Ole mother river is going to drop sharply over the next two days. Only a few fools are fishing today...it's just not safe yet, even in a boat. Also, my arm is completely healed. I'm released from further care and am ready to get my elbows wet! But only if I forget my net.

The blog is at 1980 hits today and I'm interested to see how many hits I get this year. Come back often in the next few months and I'll keep you posted on conditions. Special thanks to The Closer for keeping an eye on the river for us. And everyone knows that DBLDIP will always check the river in at least two locations. Fisherboy is bound to give us the best updates from each side of the river too.

And our old friend Marty Baer will entertain us by sending his lackies out complete with fake nets and monoculars to bust people. Maybe they ought to spend their time keeping people safe rather than writing tickets for unpalatable reasons. I vote for DNR writing tickets for littering but not for supposed after-the-fact snagging. Or maybe they should set up a new check station at Maple Street and direct traffic...but that would require a brain.

I guess ol Marty was at Bass Pro the other day helping to teach unsuspecting fools how to catch walleyes in the river, probably gathering photos and license plates in the parking lot in the process. We all know he has only the best intentions, yea right!

New year I guess. Got my equipment ready today. Both the lead pole & the floater pole. Went down to see how much line I had on the 2 reels so I had to fish. Water actually not that high for the SP. Like some people do I had no net. But I also had no boots. So I was limited in my options. Lost my lead jig after a while so no results. Use my floater & guess what? Had a fish on but did not have my drag on tight. Ran (swum)down stream. 2 guys came over, 1 with a net while the other grabed the line after it wraped partly around a tree. He pulled it in close enought to be neted. He picked the net up with the fish & passed it around the tree to me. I noticed that the floater was hanging from the fish belly. Really a nice view. Unhooked the fish, went back to my spot, dropped the fish behind me & looked across the river. Looked cleared. After rubbing my nose a couple of X's I picked the WE up & flicked it gently back into the water. I guess I will catch a few better hooked fish this year.

Just then I saw 1 of my buddies drive into the parking lot. No I did not go down to intercourse with him. He finally left after talking to a couple guys. I said the hell with it & left. Total time fishing 40 minutes. Maybe boots next time.

WE appeared to be a small female about 20", 2 guys said a couple were snaged that morning but did not say if they wer kept.
