Might as well go looking for the Easter bunny rather than walleye. You'll have better luck!
River dropped about a half foot since yesterday afternoon and is now at 8.57 on NOAA. By Monday morning it should go down almost another foot, only to start rising again. NOAA has us going to over 11 ft by Wednesday. YUCK! We have 70% chances of rain the next 3 days. Hey Closer and DBLDIP, I may try some high water areas on Monday evening down by the usual location. EZ Limit was going to try fishing the cut on Saturday but chickened out.
Fisherboy: sounds like you had some close contact with the DNR. Good update. Thanks for the post. Maybe the DNR should go looking for turkeys.

talked to two guys at the bait shop, waiting for two others that were with the DNR, they had lead heads with the hooks turned side ways and a Hook Gap well over 1/2" gap ,,they said they did not know about the 1/2" hook Gap,,,they said their friend only had 2 Walleye on their stringers, they said they were fishing near the bridge,,sounds like they were up to something...reminds me of the old days..with a 10 limit in a couple hours at night,,I still have a bunch of the lead heads with 4/0 and 5/0 hooks on them, better leave them home,at least until May 1st,,,
do the walleye actually spawn in the high water?? or do they wait for it to get lower? it doesnt look like the water will be low for at least another week
Drove down to Orleans on way home from work this morning, 8am, saw 1 walleye snagged off the sewer with a DNR sitting right there in his truck. Needless to say he threw it back. No sign of Fisherboy around then. May try in morning.Graybeard was there any action on Birdmans favorite high water spot on Maumee side of river on your walkabout?
where are some good specific high water areas? i plan on going tom but have never fished the river when its high
I did not see any ,but Frog saw a guy with 3 come out of the water right next to the bridge Maumee side ..I was there later,,I think Fisherboy was on the Perrysburg side in his high water spot ..but the guy with the scope would not let me look...this was around noon, the guy selling tackle at White street he had not seen any fish yet,and business was sloooooo,,We sure don't need the 2 to 3 inches of rain they are predicting
Tearin_Em_Up: Try at Orleans about halfway down the lower parking lot. There's a concrete discharge. Downriver from that is a good place to try. Or at the very end of the lot we can sometimes get in but be careful, watch your step, and take it slow.
Yes, walleye spawn in the high water. They simply go to areas of lesser flow (water speed). Sometimes when it's this high you'll see walleye hanging out on the banks, especially in the mornings. It's pretty cool to see walleye just hanging out in the water by shore as if to say, "damn, I need a break." At where ever you fish, read the water surface. Upriver from big areas that appear calmer than the rest is where you should cast.
is the meigs parking lot area a good place?
Managed to get 3 WE & 2 snaged ones. 2 of the 3 were unspawned females. By the bridge in afternoon & evening with a break for Easter ham. Lost a couple. Friend came down to BS & watch, Told me they were going crazy with hogs at the SP. Also a ticket was given there.
Think a few should have been given out at the bridge for double dipping. Or so I was told.
Carrying a few 4/0 hooks in the front of the car. Don't know why because I would never think of using them. (Actually I have thought of using them but also thought why. WE DO BITE.
what side of the river were you fishing by the bridge?
Persburg
Managed to get my 4 today. Snaged 13 besides. Wish I had a tape measure to measure some of the released ones. If not Fish Ohio then damn close. The bellies on some of those were as large as my.
Couple White Bass also snaged not to mentioned assorted others. Almost everyone were female, even the smaller ones. All in all fun even with the rain.
Just knocked the dust of the secret weapon....May 1st is just around the corner!!
Yes May 1 is comming. Hope it's not lead time. & I do not mean legal lead fishing because there is that. Tomorrow shall be an interesting day. Hope i can find a spot with the limited fishing sites available & the water higher.
