You can't always rely on what NOAA says. The river is much higher than you would think because of the strong east wind. NOAA's marker is on the Waterville bridge, but between P'burg and Maumee the east wind backed up the river by atleast 3 feet. We fished in it last night, and it was pretty miserable. I got King Canned by The Closer, who took one rock solid female home. Eastoon got a sucker. My wife got skunked too. There was no current at all, even though we tried getting out of the wind a little bit. We saw the boats getting a few fish in. Some boats were rolling sideways even though they were anchored. Be careful out there! When boats headed downriver they were taking waves over the sides and taking lots of spray. It looked like Lake Erie with whitecaps rolling upriver. Crazy!
Don't know what today will bring. But I'm sure guys are out there right now trying...Let me know how people do today. Sunday should bring a heavy west wind and that will blow in the recent rain water, so expect a rising river.

This was my first year really hitting the run. Had a good time but have to stop now for finals. Will they still be in there in about 3 weeks? (I grew up in the area and can't believe I didn't do this before)
Lovestofish: glad you stumbled upon my site. In three weeks it's hard to say, but chances are the walleye fishing will be slow then. However, you should try white bass fishing in May. It's a blast! You won't fill your freezer since they taste bad, but you will have fun. Hope you caught some walleye this year!
yeah who wants to be out there when there is a ton of people snagging up with eachother
Dr. walleye, came upon your site the other day and am wondering how you think the river will be on monday?
Geturwaders: great name by the way! Glad you found me. The river will not rise as much as one would think by Monday. The local rain has been light all day but we're under a wind advisory. I definitely think you should give it a shot. Even since my post this morning, NOAA has changed their prediction of a rise in water level. So, bring several different weights and best wishes to you!
For the White Bass, do you use similar gear if fishing in the Walleye spots? I have fished them at the Grand Rapids Dam, but thats about it.
I need to know if wading to bluegrass is going to be possible on april 17 tomorrow let me know as fast as possible
Dr Walleye you are incorrect in your assestment of the taste of White Bass. They make very good fish sandwiches, are very good smoked & not really bad fried. It is very relaxing, much more than WE fishing. Bring on the WB run (but not quite yet).
Fishing was slow for me today. Only 2 keepers, 4 tossed backs & a bunch of suckers. However I did see quite a few limits. Was at BW late afternoon.
Fishermen: Yes, you can get to Bluegrass today easily. All the crazy wind results in a river that maintained it's current level of 3.2. The river may drop some today with such a strong west wind.
Today is the walleye tournament, so lots of people will be down there. But the evening fish could be much more open.
Lovestofish: grab your light action rod, 8lb Trilene XL, and bunches of spinners for the white bass run in a few more weeks. Floaters will work on them too. But I prefer something with treble hooks, once May 1 rolls around. Blue Fox are great. Mepps Aglia work well too. So do the traditional rooster tails but they get bent up quicker than the others. 1/4 oz and smaller sizes are good.
