Where's the fish?
Reports are coming in of terrible fishing on the river right now. You may get one walleye if you fish for several hours. The fish have disappeared! People are not catching white bass, suckers, carp/junk fish. Nothing right now. A survey of Greybeard at Buttonwood yesterday revealed hardly any fish coming in and few anglers with walleye on stringers to speak of. DBLDIP got one on Thursday. Birdman zero. I got none on Wednesday. It's really strange. * * * We saw this happen last year. After the late ice, the river chilled out and fishing was ok. But through the month of April, the river never had a big, swamped out push toward the bay. Never has the river gotten so flooded that we couldn't get out somewhere, which usually happens a few times per season. Yeah, we've hit depths of 6-7 ft on NOAA, but not much more than that. Don't know what to tell you. Without a huge push of water, not much is going to happen. And if we get a good flood, we will see what comes up next. More walleye? Or just white bass? This season is almost a duplicate of last year, with most people agreeing that last year sucked. This year as a whole?...not much better. One great week of fishing happened around Easter, but one great week doesn't make a solid season for those of us who fish the river a few times per week. I hope that you got to the river when the fishing was good though.

I hit orleans last night for 2 hours, got a 19-inch jack within the first half hour, only a carp after that. Thinking of just waiting for the wb to come in.
Thanks Nathan. Whacker-H saw a nice limit early Saturday at Schroeders, but I don't know where the guy was fishing.
Managed a Polish limit today. Got 3 in the morning & afternoon. Tried for 3 hrs to get the 4th. Same thing happened earlier this yr. Guess I will have to put a 1 hr limit in the future, Went back at 7:45 & caught 1 in 10 minutes. Stopped fishing then because I had my limit. Was at the 'old folks hole' at BW.
Fisherboy, does that "old folks hole" have drive up access? haha At least you are getting out. What kind of other action was happening down there?
Guys in the morning did quite good on the rock ledge. 5 limits.
Went this morning. About 30 minutes after opening. & got limit reasonably fast. Saw 1 other limit. Guys on rock ledge did lousy. No limits.
Done by 8.00. One was a smaller spawned out female. Released a large female which appeared to be hard.& saw a very small female, around 15". Never saw 1 that small before. Guys on rock ledge were doing good.
I must disagree with this being a bad year of fishing!! I have seen alot of fish, and plenty of good days fishing. Easter week was by far the busiest week/end, no arguing that! Once the 20th hit, the river was near empty. Could be why the guys who were still around to fish were successful?? Almost everyone who was at camp or I talked to leaving had their limits, and quick limits at that! I was quite baffled that the fishing was that good and the pressure was that light! This past week brought in the white bass in larger numbers, and most guys who target the white bass had a mixed bag. Yesterday was the first day that talking to the regulars, I have heard that it slowed down and I did see less walleye and white bass alike!
