Floods

You guys would have a hard time believing how fast the river rose this week. In 2 days it went from 4.3 to 11.9 and it's still rising. Farmlands, ditches, many ponds, (even large overpass ponds) are over their banks. One of my friends with a stocked pond is pumping to a ditch just to keep his fish out of his yard. The smaller rivers like the Portage are far beyond flood stage. It's just crazy. I usually like to get out and take my wife white bass fishing, but we never got to do it. Looks like the river will need a long break. Once summer hits, then I'll post about kicking DBLDIP's butt catfishing! I'm sure he'll have something to say about that.

You missed out on some good WB fishing. I kept 2 decent trips. Enough to smoke. Yes the Mighty Maumee River is mighty.

Mighty is an understatement, I have only seen the river this high this late once ever. If you are at all familiar with Buttonwood, the first little dip on the drive down was under 3 feet of water this morning. And Doc W, you should know that statement is only going to get you a date with a mouth full of slimy whiskers. If we can fish for them by July, we could probably get a few fishin the lower lot of Ft Meigs right now.

I got your picture, DBLDIP, and went down to the boat club late Friday night. What destruction! I could not believe it. Docks all crunched up and water everywhere!

The water was so high today that they closed RT 24 by the mill at Grand Rapids, Side cut was closed last night for the road being flooded also.

Yep. I took a drive to Napoleon yesterday. 65 west of Waterville was closed too. But that might be construction. Mary Jane Thurston is a mess. Those campground didn't get cleared out. There are $100,000 campers with water halfway up their sides. The docks west of Grand Rapids are filled with brush and boats half-way underwater.

It depends on what you like to fish for. Gills (Crapies?)Evergreen Lake - Oak Openings is ok when the duck weed allows. There's a pond on Echo Road called the tile pond which can be productive for gills or bass. In 3 Meadows off of route 20 there's a pond. In Sylvania TWP there's a lake called Orlando (spelling?).
Of course a little further most small towns have resvours (spelling) which can produce. They are crap shoots however as are some of the local docks for crappies.
My favorite is the Maumee River up toward Grand Rapids where you have to wade. The best all round spot in my opinion is below the dam at GR with Van Tassel #2.

Again it depends what you want to catch or keep & the equipment you use.
