Heavy Duty

Get ready for another day with a packed river! Everybody showed up yesterday. The water will remain low for a few days, but we do have a small storm moving in on Monday. My blog has 15,950 hits today. Thanks for visiting Dr. Walleye's site! If you decide to head this way today, you run a good chance of hitting a fish to take home. It's amazing how many walleye are biting this time of year!

That's too funny. Glad I didn't see any. Of course you have to catch fish for that

Too bad once again they feel the need to hide in the trees and not just scope from out in the open. They just continue to prove they have no class nor or proud of the uniform they wear. But with the DNR's history of crookedness from the top on down what else would you expect. They are and will continue to be the "Department Non-deserving of Respect" in most peoples eyes until they change thier ways. And Graybeard said it all summed up, its all about the $$$$$$$$$$.

does anyone know why the campground isnt open and when it might open?

Biting like mad but not for me. Went down to BW yesterday evening.
Can't even get a sucker anymore. Did see a few caught but what was surprising was I only saw 1 caught across the river on Bluegrass. I'm sure there were more but not many.

My groof for the day. Left waders at home again. But realized it before I got there.

As far as the campground I am guessing the 15th but its a wild guess. They could at least open the gates to eliminate a little walking to a couple of holes.

gary is a damn idiot. Who in their right mind would pay 2.89 for a lure that your just going to snag on the rocks. gary needs to sell that place because he obviously is an idiot and is only out to make money.

doc is your picture on garys website on the 2011 walleye page march 21...the last pic?

is it possible to walk from buttonwood all the way down to meigs or it there a creek in the way?

Dbldip said...

Yes it is possible to walk from Butttonwood to Ft Meigs,BUT everyone must remember that most of this area IS private property and some of the landowners DO NOT like people trespassing on their land. There has been many times that the landowners have had damage and garbage /littering done to their property and this has made them post it. And Yes their property DOES extend into the river. No one has the "Right" to go through their property to fish. It's too bad the DNR doesn't enforce the having permission to fish like they do for hunting. I'm not trying to discourage anyone from fishing but a lot of us use the river year round and the amount of used line and trash left down there every spring by a few slobs ruins it for everyone.

Hey anonymous, that is not Doc W's picture. But he may look like that in a couple of years. Right Guys?

Anonymous said...

hey dbldip isnt that you or fisherboy in the picture?

fisherboy said...

Dbldip how long to u think it would take me to walk fr BW to Ft Meigs? With food & drink refreshment, a day? BTW my 1 trip to Ft Meigs only stopped 4 X. Trip back believe it or not 15 or so stops. & that was with an empty bucket & parking in D's driveway.

Dbldip said...

No its not my picture. Can't speak for fisherboy. I went down 2night for the last hour. Saw quite a few limits taken out. I only had 1 throwback a 5 lb female. This week could be very good , we could use some more water though. Fisherboy you need to let me know when you want those weights.

fisherboy said...

I really have not lost many weights. Not totally into the season yet for some reason. Going tomorrow in the mid moring I believe. & BTW you drove right by me in the parking lot around 4:30 I think. I was making a drug buy there. Joking, I was getting some line a friend got for me at Bass Pro.

& I have no idea if I am in 1 of Gary's pictures. I haven't caught enough fish to warrent it. Hope to change it some day. I'm still holding out for 20 fish

What's the mystery, and why do people care who we are? I mean I know the DNR use spy geese to catch snaggers. And they use digital high powered monoculars with video capability taken from tree stands across the river. Probably taking notes about my blog too. But want do you want me to do...take a pic of my sack and name it "Doc's Junk" just so you know it's mine? The DNR know who's who. Hell, they've probably got me on video. Trouble is, all they have is me catching 'in the mouth' since I'm the legal beagle bomb and the DNR can kiss my Mexican ass.

I Fished all day saturday. Only came home with 1 fish. an 9lb 11 oz female. I stayed home sunday. I'll be there this weekend again though. Doc where is the sewer you mentioned? Is that some where on the towpath between the bridge and ford st.? I may try buttonwood saturday. Not sure yet. If the fishing is good this weekend I don't think I'll be at work monday!

Fishing was good for some people at BW & bad for others. But most people seem to have 1 or 2. Took home 1 (2 if you count a generous donation fr my baby sitter) today which made me very very happy. Hope to get 3 or 4 sometime in the near future.

I was told the water was up slightly from yesterday & it was rising a little while I was there.

went to bluegrass island today and couldnt keep the walleye off my hook. Caught limit in 10 min and threw at least 15 back. A buddy was fishing jerome road and he was having the same good fishing

Anonymous said...

Fished with a bunch of wanna be fisherman today. There really should be a required class given on how to fish the river correctly.Got snagged up with one of the 5 every other cast. All they did was cast out 30 feet and started to reel it in.I guess they think the walleye are near the surface. Did manage to get my limit in 3 hours.

Anonymous said...

Gave an Asian beat down today at Jerome road. The guy snagged my waders and just kept pulling on my leg. He got to feel how cold 50 degree water was. He did manage to hold on to his pole. Just a note when somone yells STOP reeling you got me hooked! You dont pull harder. Maybe it made the DNR blooper reel?

Gatlin said...

Me & all 5 of my buddies just had a perfect day on the island, we all had our limits by 10am! A vacation day WELL SPENT!!!!! FYI firetiger was just being inhaled all morning!

Question,
3 guys standing on the bank fishing, A big time wading fellow, oblivious of other people in the world, steps in the river, wades out 6 ft from the bank and 6 ft downstream from the bank fishermen.. does this idiot think no-one will snag him, I for one will do everything I can to snag such stupidy just to hopefully remove this bad gene from mutiplying..Stupid is as stupid does. just remember once you put on waders, you are not walking on top of the water in anyones eyes ..

Okay guys,
I'm kind of new to the river, this is just my third year fishing the run. I've been fishing all my life, but the run is a very different kind of fishing to me. At risk of all of your critisizm, can anyone explain to me what I'm feeling for when a fish strikes?

Anonymous said...

just stop fishing the river...the fewer people the better

Anonymous said...

only an absolute DUMBASS would try to fish the walleye run from shore. When everyone else is in waders you either get with the program or get the hell away from the river. You must be black and cant afford waders but bottom line...the walleye run is for waders and boats

Anonymous said...

I am with the last guy...you can get a pair of rubber waders for $50....if that is to much for u get a job.there are enough fools on the river we don't need to add shore fishing douchers

Anonymous said...

Bottom line, if you don't know how to fish the river, then don't Fxxx the rest of us over. JUST STAY HOME!!! You also could try Waterville the fishing there is the best for amatures.

Jimmie jam said...

There sure does seem to be a lot of douch bags on the site this year. Does anyone really need all the name calling and shit?

Jimmie jam said...

Thank you for all the usefull tips, ya fuckin cock suckers!

Anonymous said...

no problem...stay away from the river if your a dumbass like jimmie jam....he clearly is a dumbass

Jimmie jam said...

You grumpy ass old men need to just roll over and die already, you're no use to anyone.

Anonymous said...

jimmy shut your mouth and go jam your boyfriend jimmy and stay away from the river

When do you guys think the peak of the run is going to be this year? Its normally around the 10th of April, from my experiences. This year seems to be a couple weeks ahead. Do you think that it will last as long, or is it going to be over sooner than normal? I ask this because I am very busy at work right now, and would like to know if I should take some vacation days to hit the peak run? Thanks

Anonymous said...

THE RUN WILL LIKELY BE OVER THE FIRST WEEK IN APRIL IF THIS WARM STRETCH CONTINUES. THE PEAK WILL LIKELY BE NEXT WEEKEND.TOO BAD FOR ALL THOSE DUDES THAT TOOK A LATER VACATION BASED ON PAST YEARS. OH WELL LESS PEOPLE TO FISH WITH.

Jimmie jam said...

I love how I'm the dumbass because I moved to this shit hole town a few years ago and want to learn how to fish the river the right way. Hoping to maybe enjoy something about this place. Instead, I get to hear shit from a grumpy wrinkled old nut sack like your self. Do yourself a favor, next time your out fishing, fall in and drown.

Anonymous said...

good one jimmie...actually i am not old at all but ok....if you want to learn how to fish i heard walmart has jobs available in the pet department....then you can catch all the fish you want and not make anyone mad with your stupidy

Dbldip said...

Hey guys, this is getting too unruly for even me. As far as the fishing. Reports was more spotty this morning than last couple of days in Ft. Meigs area. Don't know about upstream. For all involved there are only a very few spots where fishing is able to be done without waders or a boat. Mostly the storm sewer outlets like over at the towpath. To stand on the shore almost anywhere else is just not feasible when others are wading in the river. Plus your chances of landing a legal fish from the bank are greatly diminished. The next couple of weeks will be the best and most crowded. If you are new to the run your best bet is to find someone with experience and have them show you the ropes. There is nothing worse than having an "amateur" with no experience walk in next to you and ruin your day by not knowing what the heck they are doing. If you watch a string of guys who do know what they are doing and keep their casts somewhat synchronized and use good drifting technique it can be very enjoyable down there. Talk to other guys to see what they are using and don't cast upstream or downstream over their lines. Use common sense and don't try to fish out of someones back pocket because you see he is getting fish and you aren't.

The gear, how to fish it, and river etiquette was never really what I was trying to figure out. I understand all of that. What I would really like to know, is how to tell the subtle differences between a fish and my weight tumbling over some rocks.

For that anonymous asshole, that keeps talking shot to everyone, etiquette may be to big of a word for you. It refers to the way one acts, a persons manners if you will. I know it's kind of a big word for brainless sack like yourself. But hey, you may have learned something today.
