Keepin' it Reel

Time for a new heading called, "Let's just fish". Sorry to have been away from the blog for so long, but that's the life I lead. I'll get something put up here this weekend to address many of the comments made on the last post.

The river is swinging upward. We had violent storms last night with some periods of heavy rain. NOAA is keeping the river below 5 ft which will not compromise most sites for fishing. You'll be able to get in about anywhere this weekend.

But for the record, if boaters come to close to a line of fishermen, the driver better watch out for Doc Dubbya because I'm going to sling my floater straight into his forehead. It's a game I like to play.

By the way, my site got almost 1000 hits in a week. Way to go Walleye Warriors!

Fishing pretty much sucked yesterday ,,a lot of people flow down ,saw a lot of people leave all locations with 1 or 2 fish ..had another endurance test with a certain individual I only got 3 He got his 4Th one I beat him to the shore ,He was willing to stay until I got my last one ,,I was leaving so we left,,saw a few guys stringing snagged fish ,only to be greeted in the parking lot ,,One guy was at the Bait shop bitching about the DNR,,giving him a Ticket..The Law clearly states inside the mouth, not in the gill plate..or what ever your billfold can stand,
I am in noway defending the DNR.But when you are caught don't rant to me about it,change the Law ,or go to Court and fight it.This guy even had a party Plate on his Truck,,
Is this the First Year the Regulations had Hooked on the inside of the mouth ????? I thought it just said snagged..Of coarse I am always wrong..

The law does say snagged. However, if you look up their definition of snagging, it says anything that isn't hooked inside the mouth is a snagged fish.

SNAGGING- Snagging with a hook to pierce and hook a fish in a part of the body other than the inside of the mouth is illegal for all fish except forage fish. In Lake Erie, it is also illegal to snag freshwater drum. Snagging is illegal from September 1 to April 30 in the Ashtabula River, Chagrin River, Grand River, Rocky River, Vermilion River, Arcola Creek, Conneaut Creek, Cowles Creek, Euclid Creek, Indian Creek, Turkey Creek, and Wheeler Creek. Hooks may not be larger than five-eighths inch from shank to point.

Hey Graybeard, you and that certain individual must have a lot of time to burn standing in the river as long as you did yesterday. Here is one for you. On the DNR website where they post their new updates they have an article about the walleye run going on. They state the hook size must be "1" inch from point to shank instead of 1/2. Why don't you see if fisherboy has some that size from the good ol days and use them until you get caught then pull out their own article . Do you think that will hold up in court.Give it a try and let me know.

I talked to one of the DNR guys last year about snagging, and he said it did state that it had to be inside the mouth, but he said some guys are more lenient than other and some will let outside the mouth slide, kinda like a cop letting you go for doing 5 mph over, but then some won't....

Heading back up this weekend, my brother fished wednesday at shroeder's, caught seven so he was able to let go a few of the smaller ones he caught first. Hopefully this weekend is good, good luck to everyone.
