October river walleye
Yes, sportsfans, it can be done. I had been hearing about October walleye from a local guy for the last 3 weeks. So I finally got the time to meet up and give this a shot. And wouldn't you know it, we got into them! I can't say where, but in some pools, we were tossing very light jigs with success. The Closer was the MAN last night and got a total of 7 walleye in (with one throw back of course). Closer nailed 3 walleye in 3 casts! I got 3 walleye in. Fisherboy went home with 3. It was a riot. Be patient though. And if you get a fish, get your line back out. It's either hot or cold. The fish were 15 1/2" up to 20".
It was my first time ever getting Maumee River walleye in October. And it was a blast!

You are making me look bad. It was 4.
Sorry man. Guess you slipped one past me!
Is this year unusual or have I been missing out all these years? I have heard of an ocassional "non run" river eye caught, but nothing like the reports this year.
I would say unusual but there has been a few yrs where the WE were around,
Beach5: Thanks for visiting the site. The amount of walleye getting caught in the river this fall is unusual, I would say. I have never heard of such good fishing in October. Usually I hear of giant flatheads this time of year and an occasional steelhead. And great crappie upriver. But 20 or so walleye limits?...unheard of.
Funny you talk about big cats...my son caught his first river walleye and a Fish Ohio channel cat within 20 minutes of each other .. Great father and son day. Me...one small sheepie. I heard about it all the way home!
I've heard about walleye in the river. I've caught walleye on tube jigs in grand rapids in early summer. Never over 16. Inches though
I was fishing the Independence dam back in late Sept. and was tearing the walleye up till mid Nov. of last year. never have I done this in the past. It was awesome. cant wait to try again in a few days, I have this secret sweet spot.
Take a break young man
