In the Wind
It was a rough time down there yesterday but I finally got my first walleye--a 5 lb female. Talk about windy and no current! As we stood there, the river rose since it was backing up. We saw a guy with a limit. Once this weather breaks, and temps warm toward the week's end, things should pick up a bit. We still need a huge push of water to spark a big run. It's weird to still be in pre-season fishing this late in March.

Dbldip; When we going ,Birdman is chomping at the bit..I thought this afternoon would be good.only 4 in of snow here
Going to Maumee next week, can't wait! Hopefully Mother Nature will be kind.
This snow just made me mad lol
I personally want the snow. More the better.
Better than nothing at all. We need another big push of water then next weeks warming trend will get them fired up. Oh yeah, getting fired up!!!!

Graybeard you know Birdman, he is just wanting to get the "Belt" back. I will probably give him a shot at recovering it Tuesday or Wednesday. Will be sure to call you for the entertainment purpose of it. Maybe we will make a new rule of netting your own catch. How do you think that would go over with him.
Dbldip;we should have went yesterday we could have took our sleds and slid down the hill.We need some water the flow at Waterville is only 2700 today, last year it was 11900 flow water temp 54 and we were killing the fish..I am all for netting your own fish, but he will be on the river all day to get his limit..
Waiting for first cast in Fremont. Where did all the water go??? Cold temps, no water tough fishing!!! Maybe a limit today? Lol. Fish rolling everywhere
Guys is this year a late run? As long as I have fished it seems to be at least 2 week later than normal.
Any news of guys catching eyes in the bay? Rolling fish has always been a good sign of the run in full swing, bring on the rain and 60 deg. days.
Caught 2 jacks and a steelhead this morning at Fremont. That was a pleasant surprise seeing that fish jump 2 foot out of the water. Also released four eyes that were Hooked from the outside in. Not enough current to use floaters so resorted back to when I first started fishing the run, 1/4 oz lead head and a slow retrieve.
Finally got out for 1st time this yr. Got what I expected, nothing. Guess I should fish Fremont.
Hey guys, Tony here. Ive been following this sight for a couple years, have to thank all of you. I'm from Dayton and have been up the past three years, have not been skunked yet! I went all day on the 18th, caught one at bluegrass(crossing at 582 is scary as hell!) Then me and my buddy came down the 25th and 26th. First morning, 1/2 hour in, I catch the walleye of my lifetime, an 11 plus lb female!! The look on my face when I saw it had to be priceless, took a few pics and let her back to do her thing. Caught 2 more, snagged 1 and buddy 1. Ill try to post a pic of that pretty momma. Good luck out there guys!
commend you on releasing it back to the river GetUrWaders. A lot of people dont understand the importance in releasing the females to spawn.
Hey Hunchback I've seen you several times with your walking stick fishing and in pictures at Garys. Nice profile pic.
Couldn't agree more with you Eugene. This is my 10th yr fishing the Maumee and we NEVER keep females no matter how small. I released a female at Fort Meigs 2 yrs ago that on my cheap Rapala digital scale went 14.4 at 34 3/4 long. She had 50 cent pc. size eyes and was dark green. Hardly fought at all. Took pics and sent her back. Having a recreation made. Rather eat the 20-22" males all day long.

I'll be up there tomorrow, probably fishing Schroeders, across from the bottom tip of bluegrass. Max 4 Drake hat, Duckblind camo waders, Max 4 camo hoodie. Holler if ya are around there and see me. I'll be up Saturday with a few guys as well. Hopefully things will start picking up. Good luck out there.
Ill be out with my buddy tomorrow. Going to try ft meigs. We normally go the right of the peninsula. Any suggestions as far as other good spots on meigs?
Hey guys, me and a buddy have been fishing the white bass run for 8 years or so and have been saying we wanted to try our hand at the eyes sometime. Would anyone be willing to sacrifice a couple hours on a Saturday to show a rookie the ropes around the Maumee or Fremont? I'd be willing to trade a nice venison roast for the effort.
2nd trip for me this yr. About the only thing I can say is I'm not a virgin anymore. 1 sucker & a 20" male. But I guess I'm happy. Saw a couple limits from the center of the river at BW.
yeah fishing was so so today. I caught 4 and released a female but it took a long time to get it. Some people had limits but the fishing was far from good. You know Gary will have EXCELLENT FISHING and THE BITE IS ON all over his page. The truth is that fishing is ok. You will probably at least get one if you show but its going to be tough and take a long time to get a limit for most. Bottom line is we need rain
This is so far the worse season since the early 1970's.saw a couple limits yesterday.and a few guys with 1 fish for 6 or 8 hours..talked to a lot of guys drove a long way to catch nothing..they read on the Internet how good fishing is and make the drive and catch nothing
yeah greybeard thats gary for ya. He would rather screw customers than give an honest report. all he cares about is the money coming in and costa rica. Pure d-bag
