White Bass

All you anglers out there...the big word on the street is that Buttonwood is HOT. My neighbor and his buddies are doing really well down there on walleye. And so while the title of this blog entry is more about white bass, there are walleye in the river...limits of them at times.

Corky, Mac, and I hit the 'drag strip' last Thursday night...between the Fort and Schroeders. We each got between 5-7 white bass! And I had a legal beagle walleye on my second cast and messed it all up, dang it. So, the moral of the story is, I better try again. Maybe I ought to use my snaggin stick instead of pussy-footing around with floaters.

In fact, at Nick's wedding this weekend I was properly reminded that Dr. Walleye said early this year that, "Floaters are only used if you're XXX!" Ugh, I had to eat my words on that one. I believe my response was something about early season fishing compared to now. Nonetheless, Dr. Walleye is not XXX...although (it appears) that at certain times of the season, his fishing techniques are...!

The river swelled up a bit in the last few days. But nothing major. Maybe this slight push of water will positively affect fishing by today or tomorrow...definitely by the week's end.

Nick has pledged that while he is in St. Lucia this week on his honeymoon, he will attempt to have some fun! Best wishes to Nick and Jodi.
