Welcome 2010!

Greetings walleye warriors!  We're at 9 degrees this morning with lots of cold weather ahead.  There should be ice on the ponds by about Thursday for some crappie fishing.  If I get out this coming weekend I'll post some pics, hopefully of a bakers dozen or so of some slabs.

The river is far from frozen over at the fort.  Down by the Toledo elevators the ice has just about frozen over the entire middle of the river.

As a recap from last year, I got my two 10 pounders mounted with a rock wall behind them, pictured above.  I put three perch into the mount for the walleye to 'chase'.  The dimensions are 3' long, 2' high, and about 10" depth.  It's a wicked-sweet mount with driftwood, moss, and a few exceptional 'Maumee River's Finest' fish!

It's time to start thinking about getting jigs made for the mad run in March.  I found out that lead will be hard to come by at a good price.  $3 per bar at Janns this year with limited, supply.  I will post the date of my annual Jig Molding Party when we get closer to fishing season.  This will be about the 10th or so year for the party, which is always a good time!

If you get out ice fishing, feel free to post about it here.

Dr. Walleye,

I did great last year using jigs and BulletBobbers for Walleye in the Maumee river. There are more fish romaing around the head-waters of the fast flowing chutes then anyone thinks and these fish are hungry. I get very few snags and do a lot less casting using planing floats with directional control to steer my jigs.

Great Mount. I am getting my gear ready for a fruitful year in the river. I will pass on any information that will help out as I shop around for some killer deals. I will for sure pass on the price of lead at Jann's. Great to see the blog up and running so early in the year.

Hey Corky...AKA Closer...
Thanks for the post. Great to hear that you're ready for the run bro! And Bobber Dude...take your BulletBobbers and shove 'em up your ass! Post your bullshit crap here again and you are BANNED. Few people really know how to fish the Mighty Maumee. Trust me when I say that you are not one of them.

What a smack down on a river idiot!!! Jann's has discontinued jig bodies for $1.39. Limited colors and plenty of lead for $2.99

I'm sorry Dr. Walleye

I am more of an inventor then a fishermen, at least by profession, but fishing is my passion too.

I have landed more Walleye then most and would guess between fishing out on Lake Erie and from various rivers it is over 1,000 pounds. That's only 20 pounds a year for 50 years and well below the heath recomendation. Nothing better then graham cracker crumb breading on big chunks of fresh Walley.

I read your blog and thought it was good and tried to tail ride it.

MY BAD!

Maybe see you in a month or so when the run is happening. I'll have the video camera this year.

Glad to see the Blog back up and at em, hope to have a much better year than last. Doc, forgot to tell you coming back from trout fishin yesterday with Birdman we looked out the window and guess who followed us almost back home, no other than one of the Green Truck driving jackoffs that makes their living hiding in the trees down at the river. Do you think that is some kind of omen or what??
