The river tonight is leveling off at 5.16 ft on NOAA. It's expected to rise less than one foot due to local rain by Thursday. That's fine. You will see guys starting to cross to Bluegrass island any day now.
Thanks to all the new posters on my blog! Welcome Mr. Jiggings--clever handle there. And welcome to Sheep Dip, AKA Sheepshead! And also to Rogier. Sorry Anonymous--try to get logged in with a clever name, and then I won't have to presume that you are responsible for the DNR's new tactic: spy geese! To new posters, go back and read comments to get a glimpse into past river conditions. It's a good guide and will reward those who follow it closely. I fish all parts of the river but we do speak in code a little bit. For those looking to get a fish by the weekend I highly recommend Side Cut. That's where I was on Sunday night. Try above the island but well beneath the 475 bridge. For some reason each year in the early season, we get them on the Maumee side before the fish stick around Buttonwood. Good luck!
SNAGGER ALERT! Two guys got busted for foul-hooking at Orleans on Monday as reported by Dr. Walleye's faithful compadre DBLDIP. Why on Earth do people snag? You may think that I'm a snagger with all my jokes, top ten list, and view of DNR. But in truth, I'm just a voice of a typical guy who likes to fish, keeps the legal ones, and calls the DNR out for their atrocious tactics and opinion that they are not just above the law but standing on top of the legal mountain. What do you bet that the newest member of the DNR team had a hand in this from the Maumee side with his monoculars. He is a tall, ugly, strapping young man whose recklessness is going to bite him in the peepee...that is, if he could find it.
This is the third year for my site I believe. Since Saturday I've had over 300 hits! That's freakin fantastic. Spread the word: Dr. Walleye will HOOK YOU UP! Walleyerun.blogspot.com is where it's at.
This weekend will be the big kickoff. Expect big crowds, and get there early. The water will have dropped farther by then, with NOAA predictions at 4.9 or maybe a little lower. NOAA predictions are not exact, but since I've followed them for many years I try to convey to you what it means to people in waders. For example, by Saturday you will probably see guys at Orleans fishing in double columns with one line of out-of-towner fuck wads wading out way too far. God I hate that. But that's what happens at 4.9. Give a brother some room to fish! And here's another tip. The out-of-town fuck wads will be the ones who float a 4 ft carolina rig, let it go down till it tangles you, and you'll know it for sure when you pull up his line to untangle yours and see braided line.
Every year our close group of friends meet many, many well intended nice guys from all over Ohio and elsewhere. Not all visitors are fuck wads...again...just the ones as highlighted above! Get some Trilene XT and you'll be way ahead of the pack. And you'll catch more fish and get fewer snags.
I'll be down to the river tomorrow and maybe later in the week. I'll wake you up with a new post once I have something to report. Thanks for choosing to surf Doc Dubbyas!

Was at SP & would not fish. People are walking out too far for my achin' back. Saw a couple of yo-yos way to the right about 100 yards out. Guess they do not like neighbours. After 2 hrs of yaping with the guys I told the guy I met I was either going home or actually fish.So we went down to BW. Got pissed at myself for my crappy fishing skill (normal for me to the guys that know me). Lost 1 dragging to shore, landed 1 QB & also 1 small WE. Did see 3 LIMITS a distance away
Hey Fisherboy, saw you sitting on the sewer at SP yapping yesterday morning as we went by in a boat to to Doc W's favorite hole. I had 2 throwbacks 1 nice jack and 5 lb female. 5 other unkowns on but lost. Water level should be good there the next few days unless todays wind sucks out all the water.
Yes I hope for better days. Managed to get 1 Legal Beaver & 2 toss backs. Plus a sucker & a QB. Best I saw was 2 WE.Going a little later tomorrow to BW.
Don't know why people have to blast the DNR for doin a job. If big brother didn't lay down the law then you wouldn't have good fishing. Its always the hoodlums that complain though. Good luck to all this year.
