Summer Report
Last week, The Closer, his son, and I hit the Grand Rapids dam area. I took some bait fish to try and get a flathead. No luck there. The water was still a few inches over all the usual rocky areas in summertime. But with a few rocks piled up we had a place to set down our stuff. We clobbered catfish and some bass. The catfish were mostly small. But the boy got several in the 12-14" range. I got one 20 incher. Ended the night with total fish of at least 55. I had 28 cats and 3 sheeps. Also I have been fishing Simmons Pond in Perrysburg and having great luck using artificial stuff for largemouth. Even Doc W thorws back bass fellas. That pond has bounced back nicely. There are also some catch/release crappie--too small to fillet. And plenty of gills in there. I don't think they stock trout anymore since they would all die off in years past. Any advice on where to try for flatheads in the river?

DBLDIP and I hit the river last week for a catfish contest. He started out the night with a nice smallie on a crawfish. I caught the first cat, and he kissed it since he needed some lip balm. We tied at 17 on the night. We got several nice 5 pounders and threw everything back for another day.
what do you use to catch them? a float with minnows and worms?
& all I get are junk bluegills. haha Ate a bunch today
Crawlers on bobbers
You won't be so lucky next time Doc, especially since I forgot about the contest trying to catch smallies.
Did something diff. Went bass fishing at Belmont. Managed 12. 5 were around 16". Nice to throw fish back.
Did a bit of fishing in various ponds most of which I never tried before around Pioneer. I have not seen so many small gills in quite a while. Got a nice bass at Lake La Lue (or whatever the name is) & 1 decent gill. So much for Saturday. Did OK the other days at the campground & my favorite spot for gills. Managed to get a couple FO gills today. What is really amazing about them is theie width which would cover a slice of bread. I may have to try a gill sandwich some day.
Tryed to change it up yesterday at the river, i fished for cats. Actually had great success! Caught around 18 in about 3 hours. Only took home 9 my biggest was 23 pounder. I let him go back. I might make this a regular thing, but man do I wish the walleyes ran all year round! But anyways, thought that I would just check in. Hope everyone is doing fine!
