Holy Catfish!
This week has produced a mixed variety of catfish. Earlier in the week on the river, we clobbered realy nice channels and what appeared to be blues. 4 lb catfish were coming in. Some were a dark blue and silver--and were too large to handle with one hand. Last night we got big numbers but I was not getting the big fish. The Closer got in several large cats. But DBLDIP and I were getting mids. I ended last night with 19 cats to Closer's 17. I think DBLDIP had 13 but I forget. Any way you slice it, with the river holding steady at 2.2, the drift is slow and the water low. Get on out there anglers! The river is producing.

Tried smallmouth fishing down by Jerome Rd. Only 7 caught, largest 15". Nothing else. Managed a saugeye day before along with sheephead & largemouths at dam. Guess I should get some bait & go cat fishing?
Yea fisherboy u better go while the water is down.
My cousin and I went Sunday night and we got 12 total. Some big some small. I had a whopper on that swam me upriver, did a U-turn, got in the rapids and busted off. It had to have been a flathead.
Was tring to get a hold of Dbldip to check up on BW. No luck so I decided to try for crappies. Managed to get some (9)along with WB, a LB & a bluegill. I had 1 breakoff at dark using a jig. Line would not feed off reel & broke at lure (6 lb test). Decided it was time to leave then. (Damm oh damm.)
Sure Doc, who is telling the fish stories now. Maybe he ate ur lighted bobber from last week also! haha Sorry about missing ur call fisherboy was out taking care of horses. also found out have another snapper to catch in the same pond.
Finally tried BW for catfish. 1st time doing this in at least 3 years. Managed 11, 2 sheephead & 1 smallmouth. No huge ones but there would have been enough for 2 meals at least (if so inclined). Did have 1 on towards the end which I was unable to control until it poped off. A little later my rod snapped when setting the hook on a huge 11". Time to leave then.
Getting to like BW. 2 sheephead but 19 cats. Could have been 50 by the way they started bitting at dark. Not huge but only a couple of babies. Getting to know where to fish now (but @ day might be different)
Back to the river today. 43 cats, 28 sheeep, 2 WB, 1 gill & 1 LB. Needless to say I was using worms & a bobber most of the time. I felt alone most of the time. Actually I was except for 2 guys once & 1 guy another. They were after walleyes & asked where they were. If i knew I would have been fishing for them. (Actually they are at Indepence Dam, the next dam up.
My dad and I got into some cats at Buttonwood this past week. River is super low and slow. There is barely a drift going until the approach to the rapids. Biggest was 23 1/2" and 5 lbs. One largemouth.
Tried the river yesterday afternoon. Used minnows instead (with a bobber). Only 9 cats, 1 carp (snaged with a jig), 21 sheephead & 39 WB. Got tired of the WB towards the end. They were small. Next time I may stick with a jig. What the above proves is sheephead will hit any live bait. At GR of course.
