Interesting year

What a strange year on the river. The low water kept many walleye at bay literally. We went down last night and the Closer did really well including white bass and also a smallie! I'll write up a year summary another time. All said and done, the river is still a great place to go and fish. Don't expect a walleye if you go though. You might luck into one if you fish all day.

Stetson, bring the ultralight and have at it. The whiteys can be a blast. Even ol Fisherboy can catch them, haha. No with the rivers condition this next week should be killer and maybe you will get a chance at my favorite, monster garfish.

I'm working right now and the anticipation is killing me,I cant wait to get home and pack my things, and if i catch any type of Garfish its going to dbldip lol... Last year I bought Minnows from maumee tackle, they were very small, I'm thinking of bringing a few dozen large Minows from our local bait store here in Columbus.

yeah nothing huge on the eyes but good eaters. Caught all the eyes 20 min from eachother. Wish i could have stayed longer but stuff to do. White bass were hitting great though. Many times had two on at once.

It was really the first time i have caught eyes in the river on anything other than floaters.

Dbldip I was fishing Thursday in that deep hole at the end of the rock bar you love where all the gars hang out. Water was a little high for the gars however. Did not see any. Fishing sucked - at least for WB fishing. (& why is the walk getting longer & longer every year?)

Fisherboy they were killing the white bass from White St to Side Cut .they were filling 5 gal buckets and stringers..The guys from Detroit were filling there coolers in there vehicles. You know where they will end up.Some guys were even having a fish fry by the White St parking lot The guys doing the best were using minnows and bobbers,I have not seen any White Perch yet or the guy that fishes for them..You are right the walk is getting longer .Because of Global Warming

FWIW I caught a FO WB this morning. I really had to strech it to make 16".

yeah i got one today as well fisherboy. Caught probably 50-75 in 3 hours. They stopped biting as soon as the sun came out. About had to whip some asian behind today also. Dude had miles of river and because he sees me catching them he comes within 3 feet of me and starts casting. Luckily it didnt matter and he still didnt catch anything

Kingslayer, were you fishing with Graybeard? He is a magnet for those dudes. Some of them are OK others like your experience need to go away.

Tried it today for 30 minutes. Hiting instantly - 2 at a time. Droped lures in water - instantly. Trouble is the hits were from moss. Gave up & went crappie fishing with minnows near Whitehouse. Open truck up - no poles for crappies, no bobbers, no hooks. Got bobber & hooks from fisherman leaving. Bobber was broken & hooks were large enought for flatheads. No luck.
But late in evening went & caught some nice gills on fly at Evergreen.

yeah fisherboy i had that same problem in the area where i normally fish. I had to go find some slack water where the moss wasnt flowing. There was a bunch of minnows in the slack water and the white bass were stacked in there eating them. Are some of those walleye minnows?? What happens to the fry when they hatch? stay in the river or leave

Kingslayer we do a lot of seining and netting for bait during the summer and I have never caught a young of year walleye yet

kingslayer said...

yeah i wonder where they all go. maybe the shallows of lake erie?? I would think that if they stayed in the river the white bass would consume a ton of them

WB was hitting today. Caught close to 60. Not crazy but reasonably steady. Guys from Akron managed over 300. Glad they have to clean them.

Fisherboy.,You should went with Gary....
AWAGOOD MORNING! FISHING WAS VERY GOOD YESTERDAY. MOST ANGLERS THAT I HAD TALKED TO WERE FILLING THERE STRINGERS. I WENT FISHING YESTERDAY AND CAUGHT 347 WHITE BASS. REMINDED ME OF THE OLD DAYS. I FISHED FOR FOUR HOURS AND TWENTY MINUTES. WAS FISHING FROM THE BANK THROWING A 1/16oz SINGLE JIG WITH A 2'' WHITE

I saw that. Sounds a little unreal. 1 of the guys from Akron wanted 20 to take back home today. Don't know why he didn't take 20 that wasn't clean. Anyway I went down & caught excatly 20 for him & stoped. Then I wasted the rest of the day frishing for White Perch.

what do you do different for the white perch fisherboy>

i'd like to take my kids out in the morning and fish for white bass off a safe shore somewhere. can you recommend a good spot? i know most normal spots for walleye fishing, but im not sure of a good spot for wb from the shore.
fish them the same way? toss it into/around current?
