Good news for wader guys. The river chilled out and crested yesterday. Crossing to bluegrass will be easy. The river never went as high as projected.
Greybeard: thanks for the updates! Sorry to hear that you and your Asian friends are having problems. Toss them a few shad, and everything will get better.
Fisherboy: we gotta get out fishing together sometime.
DBLDIP has reported that the ODNR released their assignments on Monday. As of today you will start seeing the green truck brigade. The out-of-town Department Non-deserving of Respect will be in the trees with their monoculars. Or, as we heard from someone...DNR hiding in a hollow log. Not surprised.
Dr. Walleye limited out last night. The Closer posted a nice jack on his stringer. And Minnowdunker tagged 3.
The colder weather might slow down the bite a little bit. And it will keep the amateurs away.

I am looking for a little info on fishing the area (river or bay) from boat instead of wading. I plan on draggin my wife out Monday and Tuesday, but have no clue where to start and stay clear of other anglers, yet still be on the fish. Any thoughts?
Try anywhere between the Maumee Perrysburg bridge and Shroeder farms which is next to Buttonwwod, watch going upriver if putting in at Maple street in Perrysburg there are lots of rock bars in the Orleans park area, try anchoring just off the main current using 3/4 to 1 oz weights with floaters , hot pink seems to be doing well. Good luck, fishing pressure is much lower on week days.
JJM: Listen to DBLDIP. He knows the river better than anyone, including me. But I catch more fish!
Every year we see boaters capsize. And we hear guys run their boats aground and bust their props. Keep it slow out there, and you will be fine. But don't try running through Buttonwood/Bluegrass or you'll get in trouble.
Doc, I have to object to the "I catch more fish" statement! I was just down checking out the river. Saw some boats going upstream through the Orleans area while keeping their props elevated. The few guys still fishing there are 1/2 way to the island.Going around the Maumee side of the island may take longer but you will have less chance hitting bottom.JJM you could try putting in at Shroeders it cost $8 but it will save you time and get you to the better areas quicker, just watch out for the spot at the big rock bar on bluegrass. Saw several limits at Buttonwood they say the fishing was good there mid day. Birdman had 1 fish and he said fisherboy had been there and left with 1 I think. lot of guys are doing good while others aren't. Scottyboy tried the hole and only got 1 throwback.
wow more bitching about the dnr. I hope you ass gets busted. Everytime i watch them bust someone it makes me so happy
Great day as usual. Just the 1 at BW as reported, a nice 22 " which I ate 90% of for supper. Seems I should change my name to 1 a day.
Released one that bit with his cheek. But Birdman did a nice job on netting 2 suckers for me.
New to the area & this type of walleye fishing. Wow what a humbling experience. 2010 was my first year, and learned a lot. By the end of last year, I was a lot more confident with my ability to catch fish. Due to living about an hour away, I don't get to go more than once/week, but I'm pleased that I started out this year with three on the stringer. Thanks to all who share tidbits and how-to's here and there. It's much appreciated to those of us who are new to this. As with all other outdoor sports (hunting/fishing) there's a core group of good guys, and some true knuckleheads. Kudos to all of the true sportsmen out there. Thanks again all, and until then, I'll keep my eyes and ears open...and try to learn from you guys that have been doing this your whole life. Best of luck to all this season!
where did you get your limit at I went out to orleans but had no luck
Should I go out to bluegrass island tomorrow or too cold to go?
Fr 1 a day to none a day. Had 1 on at BW. More than likely it was snaged. Was there from 11:15 to 2 or so. Only fish I saw caught were from the rock island in the middle of the river. Wish they would blow it up as it is beyond my ability to make it there. Just envy.
Orleans is too low now. Try upriver. Or buy a $300,000 lot & fish at the Santuary. (Across river fr Jerome Rd)
